It's better to burn out than to fade away

As far as I know, no man in the history of the 54& terminal has ever been given a letter for running out of fuel. I believe this terminal opened in the fifties and I've talked to men whose been here for over 30 years and not one of them know of any driver that was given a letter for running out of fuel. I personally know of men that have ran out off fuel and were never given letters. The man who receive the letter was returning from a 225 mile round trip and ran out of fuel less than 3 miles from the terminal. This is a man who has worked at 54& for more than 36 years on both the dock and as a city driver, he has also won the Million Mile Safe Driver Award, and this is the first time in over 36 years he has ever ran out of fuel while on the road. Why was he the first one to receive this letter, because he was the one who caught the TM sabotaging his own terminal. (TM was sending loads out that were suppose to be worked at 54&, but because TM was filling in for the evening shift supervisor and he didn't want to stay and work them.) TM sabotages his own terminal, company and men yet the one disciplined is the Teamster who caught him. TM lives for revenge, even when he's wrong. I will be disappointed in local 823 if they do not get this man's letter retracted. 823 has over 60 years of past practice to back them up.

Why do you refer to your terminal as "54&"???
That driver needs to wipe his *ss with that letter and mail it back to that dumb*ss.
"I was here before you got here, and I'll bee here when you're gone." :-)

I think the letter is legitmate. If you didnt fill your tanks before you left the yard and you ran out thats on you. No one will ever say no you cant get fuel to do a run even if its across the street and back. What else did the driver overlook before he ran out the gate ?...Not pointing fingers but come on

At 881 foreign sleeper drivers were not allowed to fuel at the terminal. This may have changed when Mikee was shown the door.
And city drivers were only to fuel on their given day. In an effort to cut down on terminal costs and labor.
Their feeling was that their budget and numbers were better off pushing the cost elsewhere.
Just one more reason they are in the position their in......

It's just a letter.. But I do agree it's BS. Keep fighting the fight...Deck is stacked, the dealer is crooked, stay strong, no biggie..

90% of the trucks fuel gauges don't work or they are not accurate.

You drivers are some of the best I've seen, Truck smart and good at what you do. It's a shame you have to put up with bad a HR department and terminal managers. I was a mechanic with you guys a while ago, I quit over them not letting me repair trucks correctly.

YRC lives to hand our warning letters. Always cover your ars, regardless of the circumstances. And what is his hurry anyway ? Slow down union driver. Dont be in a big hurry to get yourself fired.

If thats the best your renegade TM can do to retaliate against y'all, I don't think I would lose any sleep over it. Just a warning letter no biggie, don't get too worked up over it.

It will be retracted.... No need to get in a huff. No offense either
Sounds like a good guy with a good record and IT will be tossed.
Besides... If I get a letter... I don't even give a rats ass. They are not worth the paper written on and almost all have been thrown in the trash.[/QUOTE

$33.48 for 2 certified letters. 1 to the "violator." 1 to the local barn.
If not picked up, (like mine, which go to a PO Box) another $16+ for return mail.
How many idiot letters are written out per day???

This is why when you do a pre trip you pull the cap off and shine your light into the tank to see where your at with fuel. If in doubt, fill it up. Never trust anything.. always take a moment to check, ie 5th wheel, doors, fuel, oil, coolant. etc. Im not perfect but I will pop that hood and I will check all the little things because of the equipment being so worn out and it gives me a slight bit of confidence that I did everything I could to have a safe day before I left the yard.

Many of you older guys will remember LTL carriers would order their trucks with very limited gauge packages. I have driven Brigadiers with only a speedometer and an air gauge. The carriers would respond "you fuel at every relay, why do you need a gauge".
