XPO | Winter Storm

And "You're a professional driver".

Yup Snail , I am a professional driver. I've have been one for decades and have driven through many snow and ice storms. Just cause I posted that I don't like driving in adverse weather situations doesn't mean I enjoy it. Take a moment, if you care to, and scroll up and read my post to Dodge Ram on this subject . I was merely making a contrast between the old Conway winter driving policy and the relatively new relaxed policy that is in place now. Enough said?

It really doesn't make good business sense to run into a eminent storm .Putting life's at risk , expensive equipment , wrecker bills , and drivers CSA safety score. Sometimes you just cannot go.
Very good point, truckn. Why why WHY put lives and equipment at risk. If it's THAT bad out there, I'm not runnin', plain and damn simple.

I think the quotes mean he's saying that's what Conway used to say.

I don't think he was questioning your driving ability

Last year when the Midwest was hammered with snow, they had around 600-700 loaded trailers parked against the fence in XKC, anybody know how many trailers are loaded and parked against fence right now, also ANY freight coming out of East Coast, XCO, you guys running either direction tommorow?

Proceed with caution and then turn around and come back

Yeah, I like that idea WK105. Years ago in the old 'proceed with caution' days of ccx we had a L/H driver from our barn that was dispatched out into an ice storm. He stressed out trying to get to his destination sc He called up L/H and said that road conditions were absolutely dangerous. L/H told him to "keep going , you're almost there." But instead he turned around and went back to his original departure sc.We never saw him after that night. Word has it that the company gave him two choices the next day: 1) "resign from the company and keep your work record intact, or 2) we'll fire you and your work record won't be too good.". So yeah this guy did 'proceed w/ caution', but came back and paid the price by loosing his job w/ the old Conway winter driving standing order..."proceed with caution."

Yeah, I know, believe me. If road was open and hadn't been shut down by State Police you had to run, but that was the Old Con-Way, I stopped and asked a State Trooper why in the world is this interstate open with 3 inches of ice on it and hundreds of trucks and cars in ditch overturned, he told me the Gov. has to give the order to shut it down and he won't do it because as soon as he does his phone starts ringing of the hook from big business putting pressure on him, so the State Cop said he agreed it should be shut down but the Gov doesn't want to take the phone calls, so much for safety first I told him, he agreed.

Well WK...there can't be too much freight moving beginning this past weekend. WV had over 40" of snow, MD 36" and most other mid Atlantic states got slammed. Southern states took a beating too. Soooo to keep jr. guys from being laid off I was asked if I wanted last Thursday off and I took it. Then Saturday they called me up and asked if I wanted to take Monday off and I took it. Wow, I've had a 4 day weekend so far and lovin' it. I guess I'll have to finally go back to work on Tuesday when the roads are cleaned up and things begin to move again.

Yeah WK, last winter we cruised right along real fine concerning winter weather w/ one or two insignificant snow events. Then after the end of the 3rd week in January we got clobbered w/ snow like you wouldn't believe. Snow storm accumulations weren't measured in inches...rather in feet. Seems we got a major storm every week till Spring after that 3rd week in January. In fact the state shut down the roads numerous times and Conway told our whole barn to stay home on at least 6 separate occasions. And guess what... it is the end of the 3rd week in January this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed!!!

we so far have had only 2 nights below zero, normally the highs struggle to stay above zero. this week calls for near 40 degrees
