These 700 trailers that are coming into the system are these to replace the Tfvp, Ovnz trailers. Or is there something big that going to happen this year like competing with fedex on their business model. The priority and economy freight. Conway is getting into the economy freight sometime in the near future.

I'd love to see them go more 53 foot trailers and do away with doubles. Parcel drivers say it's coming for them... We'll see...

From what I observed when I was with Overnite, years ago, the doubles were useless because dispatch had not a clue on utilizing them. Basically all the doubles did were take up door space. And also, I wonder how much money has been spent on injuries because of doubles.

When I first started with Overnite they were just getting into doubles. Yeah! I'm getting a little long in the tooth.

Are you going to pull them with single or tandem tractors? The problem with 53's is that the bosses are going to tell the docks to fill them up and it doesn't take much to overload the single axle.

I don't really think more 53's mean more city trailers...

I'm no engineer, just a dumb truck driver, but my guess is that we road drivers need to get ready for the storm that may be brewing.

What storm is that? You talking about contract carriers...

Are we allowed to peddle with 53 footers? I don't think anyone cares anymore.
When the 48' came on the scene, we were told that they were not going to be used in the city. It was not 2 months later, we were peddling freight with the 48s. So to answer your question, my opinion that the 53s will be out on peddle runs just as the 48s were.

No problem we can negotiate what we want in the next contract. If no one is willing to fight for road drivers then we all can take it or go somewhere else. It all comes down to that plain and simple. It is and always have been up to the majority...

We already have language protecting road drivers. The international has chosen not to enforce the contract carrier language already written. At my barn we have lost 37 runs since ratification. These runs have been given to owner ops ( sc@bs ) and contract carriers as dedicated runs. We now back up contractors. The whole country has drivers sitting home while sc@bs run the freight even though article 44 clearly states that road drivers are guaranteed work in their classification if contractors are being used.

Unless enough drivers stick together no matter how much it hurts nothing will change and they know most people with families won't. Sorry to have to say that but it is just the way it is. Same way with FedEx and now XPO there has to be enough drivers willing to stick together no matter what the cost. It will come to bite them all eventually with driver shortage and bad drivers costing them a arm and a leg...

I would love to work at UPSF as a road driver, but this is why I wouldn't, as a new guy there seems to be no way to make sure that contractors wouldn't be running over you.
