XPO | Terminal Closing

Maybe in this instance, but overall it's been very poor.
The TMs that I've talked to say they are kept in the dark and wish they had more info on things.
I don't think there is any debate about that..
It does **** me off that tm's don't care about their employees enough to stay and have a few meetings to keep employees in the loop. Angers me... Some of these tm's are so apathetic and indifferent.

Before long all small terminals and outlying terminals that have a bigger sc near them I imagine will be closed. It only makes business sense. Why have all the over head of a smaller terminal when a bigger sc can peddle freight a little farther and still cover the ground. Example Laurel MS from Jackson MS is only an hour and a half away not really that far. Laurel is a crap hole 4-6 door sc that more resembles a shack. Why have all that cost? Same for Gadsden Al to Chattanooga TN

The only problem I see with closing more terminals is some terminals are blowed out on FAC especially, and some are out of room for City and Yard not Big Enough, In General I'm saying, so they would need to add on to these Class 1 and 2 Terminals to make room for more trailers tractors and runs

Another example is Asheville N.C. close to Hickory N.C. Holland has a lot of distance between there terminals, in the south anyway.

Ccx had terminals every 50 miles or so. They were drowning in profits. Closed a bunch of them a few years back and thought they'd make it up with the well discussed lean crap. If you close terminals the service sucks. Ordinary at best. Ordinary service, ordinary rates.

Boys the past is gone. This is a different time and place in transportation industry. There is no need to have a terminal every 50 miles. Those days are dead and gone. The days of drowning in profits are dead and gone. Trucking is very cut throat and you don't need all the overhead. When roads weren't as good and equipment wasn't as good yes you needed terminals so close together but this is 2016. It ain't justified when you can shed this excess cost. Some peddle areas should be reduced to every other day service. Not enough freight in some areas to cover the cost of running one shipment in east bumble when it can wait until the next day for another shipment. It's comments sense folks.

Cool. Just follow Conway Frt winning strategy, put bean counters in upper mgt, college kids
who hardly know what city they're in as dispatchers, train your own drivers because nobody wants work here, pee off your long time drivers by screwing them out of their pension that was promised for 20 yrs. Close more terminals ticking off a bunch more drivers and customers. All sounds like a 2016 winner to me. Good luck.

I hear XHB is closing also?

LTA hasn't had a SCM for a few months now. Last one was found in a motel room by the maid after he met up with some girl on CL. Apparently she just wanted the company car, phone and his wallet. Don't know if they've recovered any of that.
Now we know why an SCM wasn't sent in.

True, rastus. The farther the 'reach' for a terminal, the harder it is to maintain the level of service. Distance = time. Later deliveries, later pickups...you know the drill. There's an R & L Carriers terminal over 100 miles from my hometown, and I see those guys still out and about when I'm driving home for the day!

that was a concern up here with 72 miles between 2 class 4 terminals scm said we weren't even in the top fifty on the list of terminals of concern on jacob's list. but that list can change tomorrow if he wants to change it. i heard through grapevine<not scm> he was surprised we didn't go to new brunswick so maybe if we get that back our sc will definetly be off his radar

Everything sucks at Gary...
I like the port-a-poti place directly next door. Smells great on the dock when they empty them at night...
They should provide masks for when you drop your set when its not muddy after a rain... XGH has to be one of the worst terminals in the system , what a crap hole. I will say that they do try to keep it clean on the dock, but the yard is a dirty, dusty, filthy enviorment.

Sounds like they are following the YRC model to me, all they need is to start letting the fleet get old and you will have it duplicated.

I understand some change is needed, but all these company's want to do anymore is reinvent the wheel. Point A to point B keep it simple without turning people's lives upside down....

Have the neighbors spread their "material" on that dusty driveway of yours. It will keep the dust down.:biglaugh:
