FedEx Freight | Pat Reed Retiring

We didn't see much of him out west. In all honesty the only time I remember seeing him was when east and west merged. I don't think we have the same level of respect for him you guys back east do, but with that being said he's put in his time and I wish him a happy retirement.

Isn't Pat Reed responsible for the Watkins Fedex National LTL debacle? That was a Great business decision . Great job Pat, that was a billion $ well spent.

Mike Ducker pulls a $500,000 bonus right after the stock shoots up and 2 other guys get $800,000. If you think your getting a bonus in July good luck and if you do it won't be much. We are at 3.9% and need to hit 6% to make a 1%bonus and things don't look good for the next 2 quarters.

Pat Reed,
Wasn't he the guy on mile marker 15 that called us a bunch of actively disengaged venom spewers and that we need to get them working for our competitors ? Well maybe now her can go get a job with our competitors, he should have been swept away with that Cherry guy last year.

Heard he didn't retire but going to work for amazon.

The announcement was made at noon yesterday, March 4, that our Executive VP and COO Pat Reed would be retiring on July 31st of this year.
For those who didn't know or never had the opportunity to meet Mr. Reed, I hope you get the opportunity before he leaves. I've personally met with Mr. Reed on several occasions and I can attest that even as COO and former President and CEO of FedEx Freight East, he never forgot where he came from. He truly had an open door policy and always took the time to speak with anyone, he was never "to busy".
He will be missed here at FedEx Freight and in the LTL industry.

Have they named his replacement yet?

I knew Pat Reed .He had just received his diploma out of college. He started working for Con Way 1988. He worked at terminal in Oxnard CA .I think we had maybe 14 doors..We got awards from Con Way for best on time service..Lowest damages etc.etc.Which he proudly hung up in the drivers room..( closet) I asked him candidly how he did it and he replied " when you guys shine I shine. My job is not to tell you how to do your jobs..You know how to do that!! My job is to facilitate what you NEED to do your jobs!! It wasn't til shortly after him working in Oxnard at Conway that he was sent onto Oakland. Conways Oakland yard was a 80 plus door facility..I was on a layover there unexpectedly and got past his secretary to say hi..When I entered his office he stood up from behind his desk and shook my hand..That's just the way he is..He then found out after I told him I was on an unexpected laydown.. He then opened his own wallet and proceeded to offer me 20.00 for expenses!! Now 21 years go by and I'm working for Fed Ex.. I called him got thru his secretary and talked to him on the phone!! If there ever was something I would see that MAYBE needed to be looked at in operations I could e mail him...I no longer work at Fed Ex because of them aquiring national..They dovetailed us in our seniority..Then they did an operational change ..which we either had to work in some remote location or layoff or quite..I am not too pleased with how that went down.. But I do not believe Pat had anything to do with that..He has his bosses..I will always consider Pat my friend.. Sure he has retired..But he deserves every bit of it..And God willing 2 more years I too will retire..I count my self priveledge to have known him..
