I'm linehaul. System driver. Ran 671 miles in one trip two weeks ago no problem. Tried to get home today told it was to far. It would have been 640. I'm 149 miles from house. Where do these mile/hour calculations come from? Eobr on truck to police what we do so why dumb it down even more? Saia spent $55 on hotel that they could've saved. Would've cost them $30 on fuel just to pull empties the 149 miles.

640 is about the max they will let you run I've never heard of anyone getting 671 you were extremely lucky to pull that off lol must have been something on there very important that day lol

Had the same thing happen to me, 100 miles from home and they wouldn't let me go. They want your log to average 55 MPH which is stupid because we have electronic logs. No reason we shouldn't be able to average 63-64 if running all interstate.

In my system days, I once went from NSH to STL, then I was scheduled to take a NSH set to LOU. I called central and asked them if I could take the set straight back to NSH because I had 5:45 of drive time left and the road/weather conotions were good. "No you cant, thats too many miles in one day." I disagree but whatever... The next two weeks I ran NSH-STL-NSH turns 5 or 6 times, a lot of which was during snowfall. I didn't mind the miles, but the inconsistency is silly. They should come up with a policy and stick with it.

Got snowed in at Santa Rosa, NM. Left Santa Rosa for Albuquerque to Amarillo to Oklahoma City. 671 miles and had 13 minutes left on drive line. I have learned there's a couple dispatchers that will turn you loose and a couple that's not worth even asking for any extra.

Thats a long time on 1 road

I could be totally wrong on this opinion but I think that Central is just following the directives from higher up. Move the freight but cut out empty's,put them to bed, and eat the hotel costs rather than have those empty's show up on some report. I wonder what's going to happen when Central sends a driver somewhere, because the computer says that he can make it, the driver runs out of time en route, and someone has to come get the load from the side of the road. That's when it's going to hit the fan.I just hope that it's not me because a few weeks back it almost was.

Don't you guys stop and take a break for safteys sake or Is it dssh board diner every night.

If you are running an electronic log plus GPS , then you must take, you had better take, a 30 minute break every 8 hours. You can't pencil whip the electronic log. Normally, the 30 minute rest break will come out of the extra 3 hours of the on duty not driving line not the 11 hour on duty driving line. Usually, this is not an issue. I take one every night and some nights, two.

Good,Keep her on the road.

When I was at Saia, you actually could fool the log. Easier to do in the city than on the road though.

So you "log off" for your lunch break. Then use a pen to push the reset button on the bottom side of the screen cabinet. Takes the thing about 3 minutes to reboot. I could usually knock out 3-4 stops during my lunch by doing this. Just had my phone on a timer on the dash set for like 28 minutes. Then I would wait for the half hour to be done and continue the route normally. I would clear the bills in the handheld at that time as well. No one ever cross checked the log vs. the handheld, otherwise I woulda got busted. But, they either were too ignorant to know or too dumb to care. Was told by TM to do this when time was tight (almost daily). Cheers!

I know some that do that but I never understood why. That can get you fired. I always clear my bills as they are delivered. Some wait until the end of the day to enter or clear everything. The reason for that is very obvious IMO. They were just too busy to do it correctly. Whatever!!! You can always find a way to beat the system. But those with integrity would never do that. I suppose you could always rationalize that type of behavior. I chose not to. Just a personal choice. The only excuse to do things that way is that if the system was down or your radio is broken.

Boss gave me an order and I followed it. Wasn't my place to question. IF I would've been fired I'd have fought...and won

You should have called HR.
That didn't work prior to, or after. I'm wasn't convinced that HR was there looking out for MY best interest. Really had the feeling they were just there to squash problems before they got really ugly. Besides, if I would have talked to HR, and the boss got busted for it, who do you think would suffer? Crap rolls downhill you know...

I understand. Everyone's case is different. IMO you set precedent with your earlier responses to his actions. You were intimated by him. And with your subsequent behavior he took that as weakness and took advantage of you. Without knowing all the facts I can only assume it played out that way especially since your a female,
