It would be nice if someone had a copy of it. I spoke with 3 other people & the letter does exist, it said change was approved with some changes added. The effected will be bidding sometime in April & change will go into effect in May....

The letter from Keith butke, the atlanta road manager, states the change is cancelled and 086 will be bidding as soon as he OKs their current bids. I will be there tonight and can post a picture if necessary. One may also call the dispatch office in atlanta and they will say the same

Looks like more then one letter was sent out. Sad they (union /company) could not take the time to send one letter out explaining all the changes added to all the affected terminals....

The COO for the road was cancelled about 10 minutes into the big meeting at Kansas City. Mr. Sweeton just stood up and announced it kind of offhandedly.

The COO for the UE proceeded instead, and as there were fewer Locals involved, it got wrapped up fairly quickly.

The Locals involved with the road COO had about 30 Letters of Approval, and only about 6 Locals either had questions or protests concerning the COO.........nothing that couldn't have been hashed out at the hearing.

Instead, many Locals spent time and money to show up at Kansas City on the 30th,.......only to hear: "never mind........go back to your members and explain your wasted trip....."

All that time on research,.......all those studies on freight flow, customer impact,.....all that time negotiating with the various Locals involved,.....all the flight plans and hotel reservations,........ And it comes down to "never mind".... 10 minutes into the meeting.

No explanation given,......None offered.......Helluva way to run a business, if you ask me........Wait,......they DID ask me,....and my fellow employees,.....for a Letter of Approval.

So,.......Now what? Are they going to re-convene the meeting,........ a week from now?........two weeks?.......two months?........Next contract?

How about whoever cancelled that road COO reimburse all the people who flew out to Kansas City,......... for no apparent reason.

Trust me when I tell you this...that trip beat the ::shit:: out of hanging around the Local dealing with bellyaching members who should just feel lucky to have a job.

That may be true,...........but why in the name of Great Beelzebub did they have everyone fly out there to settle this,.......only to turn around and go home. Couldn't they have called Tuesday and said it's off?

Other than the steaks, K.C. nightlife ain't that great,...........kind of hard to justify wasting all that time and money.

I don't know who called it off,.......but that's either treating your employees,......or your members,........in a very flippant and cavalier manner.......No respect, as it were,........even though we get a lot of lip service from both sides about respect.........

There is no way that change could have worked personnel or equipment way..nor is it profitable to have drivers sitting along highways delayed 2-3 hours waiting on othet drivers because of dispatch coordinating or drivers inability to drive more than 3-4 hours without a 2 hour nap. The avg cost of an abf motel is 35 dollars, plus frees up equipment and keeps equipment available to move.. meet and turns cover same stretch of road, actually ties up two drivers on same freight..there is no advantage..the improvement of operating ratio isnt in this area. Abf can improve by unloading its too heavy operations personnel, competitors have done.. its 1970s dispatch system, and yes, a bit more ue... which they did. Time for abf to cough up..but as most have eluded to..this was a play for 2018 only...and beyond..

The meet and turns are nice when they are well planed out.....I worked out of Bflo for CF , a great company..at most terminals, Bflo treated their drivers good, The meet and turns with New England killed us...either they didn't send anyone or the drivers kept on going right on to Bflo...CF tried to get a UPS dispatcher to run our turns but to no avail....They are good when done right...But you have to know how to do them right...
Also Jimmy Hoffa said that anyone that touched a piece of frieght or sat behind a steering wheel was going to carry a union card....So that is why Big Business paid millions of dollars to get rid of him....Can remember my father putting his monthly union stamp in his union book...It was a brotherhood back then......

I believe the model for successful meet and turns is UPS , who has been doing them for....oh,.....thirty or forty years,.......with hourly-paid drivers, no less.

It's only been since the last two UPS contracts that their guys started pushing for mileage runs,.......which makes most freight drivers scratch their heads. UPS was very happy to turn up the speed on those brown trucks,........now the carrot is dangling way out there on the stick,......and in the last couple of years Buster Brown drivers are now complaining of getting disciplined for speeding tickets.........

Good Grief! I can remember running the road and that's all you did all night long was pass law-abiding, paid-by-the-hour UPS trucks.....,now my 62.5 mph green truck has it's doors routinely blown off by brown streakers.......

Funny,......in an ironic sort of way.........Freight going to hourly UE, and meet and turns,.........and UPS going to high-speed, hammer down mileage runs......Who'd a thought?

Yesterday our tm said that transfer bids were posted at 042,but could not(or wouldn't) tell us what the bid was for. UE or road, start times anything. Can't believe they would just put up a blank transfer bid. Anyone on here from 042 that can shed some light on this.
