The US public pension system has developed a $3.4tn funding hole that will pile pressure on cities and states to cut spending or raise taxes to avoid Detroit-style bankruptcies.

According to academic research shared exclusively with FTfm, the collective funding shortfall of US public pension funds is three times larger than official figures showed, and is getting bigger.

Where does our legislators' fund(s) fall in this picture? Why do we hear about everyone's pensions but theirs?
Because there would be action if it were theirs. We pay for it just like 2008. The blue collar middle... Lower income people. They want every extra dollar you have. Even if you don't have it. They will be Comfortable in retirement. We will not.

I was looking at a California State Employees Pension Fund that has hundreds of millions of dollars invested in YRC. I pray YRC lasts forever, but is that really where you would want your pension invested at. These are the same kind of high risk investing procedures that has helped put CSPF in the gutter. Pension funds are to be invested in guaranteed bonds and low risk stocks, especially in volitale economic times.

I'm looking through the list of investments, Vol. I do not see YRC listed with CalPERS.

Hundreds of millions of dollars invested in YRC? Where? Your own documentation shows that CalPERS holds YRC shares with a market value (as of June 2015) of $2,469,186. CalPERS has a net value of $301 billion. The YRC shares are only 0.00082% of the total holdings of CalPERS. YRC could go down to zero and it wouldn't even be noticed in CalPERS.

190,000 shares is hardly a risky investment in a portfolio of that magnitude. As Triplex stated it is insignificant in the grand scope of their investments.

It would be similar to me purchasing one share of penny stock at $.05 and riding that roller coaster....

Count the number of investments on the many pages of that document and note the percentage of investments in domestic stocks compared to the bond a mortgage securities held. It is an EXTREMELY conservative portfolio.

The "hundreds of millions" you stated CalPERS has invested in YRC would be curious, as today's market cap on YRCW is under $300M.

CalPERS would own YRC, not just be an investor.

It is a good thing that investors are taking positions in YRCW. It shows that the company shows promise. They are not shorting the stock, they are buying shares.
