I liked the CF version of a pusher.

They were notorious for that. Cadillac lost some loyal customers to Lincoln over those. A friend complained to a dealer about the camshaft problem. The dealer said that was normal. I told him to tell the dealer that is typical not normal, there is a big difference in the two. The manufacturer is ahead to eat a problem like that even if it is out of warranty.
As was Ford 3.8 V-6 head gasket issues in late `80's and `90's.

Cram one of the big block 401 V8's in there and it'd be going too fast for anyone to notice how ugly it is!
There was no '69 Gremlin. Production began in '70.

Now, to be year appropriate, the 390 from the Rebel actually posted higher horsepower. The best motor is from the 69 AMX SS, also a 390. The 401 heads make a wonderful combo with max hp and better reliability, imho.
The intake gaskets leaked coolant into the oil and if not detected soon the camshaft failed.
The 70 era 390 was about the best it used the 401 taller block the 401 rods and the better flowing dogleg port heads or the 71 401 slightly longer stroke. They seemed the best for racing engines . Had a bunch years ago still have some books as my memory has fayed in about 30 years.
