In Chattanooga, we're losing another good linehaul run, (double Atlanta turn). An 18yr man has been running it and now he will only run one turn, cutting his pay in half. We are down to three 400+ mile runs now and everything else is 250-300 mile combo runs with 3 to 5 hours of unpaid waiting time. I was hoping to get on a good linehaul run someday, but we keep going in reverse.

That unpaid waiting stuff isn't cool. On the west coast r+l line drivers are paid hourly and the only time they come off the clock is for lunch. That's the way it should be company wide, even industry wide except true OTR drivers (not short line).

They tell you the Combo is gone. But we have 2 at our barn. And they keep same hourly if on dock or on run or in city. So they lose no money on short run.

I can not speak for other Barns. Our Barn has it"s problems like any place. But all are turn over has been to Driver Transferring or being fired for Drug used. Sure we lack in somethings. Wait time and hook and unhook pay. OT but many don't get OT. That is a Political thing. That nobody wants to address. But I never go to work and say man I hate this place. I get mad we all do. But not to the point I want to walk out and work for Conway and have to walk around freight with a tape measure. Just kidding.

You are correct on the political end of things. The ATA, in my opinion is one of the truck drivers worst enemies. They want to project drivers as like everyone has a business degree in something, but their lobbyists help keep a lot of company's wages near minimum wage. You never see them stating anything in public, or that weekly rag newspaper they put out promoting higher wages in this industry would attract all the people you need.

How in the hell does R&L keep drivers with garbage like that??
They don't, we have a steady stream of fresh recruits most of the time. Some of the lucky ones will hang on til an opening in the city comes up. We have a few that don't mind sitting around for free also. The last guy that quit made it 2 nights before he had enough. He had waited in Atlanta both nights for 6 unpaid hours a piece, when he got in he told them he wouldn't be back, his time was worth more than this. Couldn't blame him, in two nights he only ran a total of 500 miles with 12 hours of unpaid waiting time.

There was a temp driver from Atlanta on the yard the other morning who didn't have doubles endorsement so they had to swing 2 pups into a van for him. He didn't look like he'd been driving to long anyway.
