XPO | Driver shortage

I'm number 9 out of 11 linehaul, and I'm workin' on 12 years! If it weren't for cc days, I'd be sitting several days a week!!
Wow.
And those guys will eventually run out of cc days. You might want to hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

Bottom line...if we want this company and our jobs to survive,(and know that you do),then it is imperative that we do the best that we can individually and to come along side the new guys and encourage them to learn from us to do the very best that they can do.

Even before the purchase this was not the attitude. Or at least a rarely seen one. More often it's a combative atmosphere. Where the old guy cusses out the new guy for even being there and the new guy doesn't trust a thing the old guy says because he's a lying, two faced ass hat.

Unfortunately, if at your barn 9 year guys are not running steady, I would say yes. But dang, that's awful. Holy cow.

We are dead. Really dead. It'll be eight for me in October. Barely running. Thank God for guys taking cc days. And I am in a big barn. Some nights we won't get 30 LH runs. Used to be 40 steady. It's been very tough. Every FAC we go to there are a bunch of drivers, that didn't get runs, working the dock. At least they are making an effort to keep us all working.

It's been like this for years. I'm ok with having a night off or working my dock, sometimes I run off the dock if someone is over. We don't make six figures running linehaul and I'm not greedy, so it's all good.

Asked a FEDEX driver if the rumor is true that they are running 6 days a week on L/H. He said, "yes, we're very busy."
Bottom line... it seems other LTL's have latched onto a good share of our business. But it's okay though cause this morning we were told at our barn that profits were up a whole bunch compared to last year at this time.$20,000 in Jan., $50,000 in Feb., and $200,000 in March. Good for XPO cause they're making money, but as far as us dsr's ...it's an entirely different story.

I have seen DSR"s with several years experience not take the time to handle the freight correctly. When you have to deliver tore up crap and have to do all the apologizeing on behalf of the company, you have a different prospective on handling freight.

How true TF.. I won't even present a damaged shipment to a consignee w/o first stopping along the road before I get there and trying to fix it w/ tape, shrink wrap, etc. Usually a consignee will notice damages but if it appears to have been fixed up...they'll more often than not let it go. I too hate groveling before customers w/ trashed up freight just cause some other non- customer facing dsr is too lazy to take care of the shipments that he handles or is too hurried to stop and fix a shipment up. It just infuriates me. :draw:

That's ridiculous.. You should not have to be fixing freight while on the street..It should of been taken care of before getting loaded. Myself and the rest of our inbound crew have a strict policy about fixing freight before loading. We even made a pallet wrapping stand out of some old pallets..It gets used quite a bit.

If we are going to talk about bad students, then we must address the bad teachers.

That article has a positive spin on it. But I could write an article twice as long that is loaded with the negative issues that has come along with these foreign drivers. Accepting lower wages and benefits, the lack of understanding of how our roadways work, poor communication, etc. etc.

Not to mention that due to these low wage earners truck stop waitresses' pay has dropped, the good ones have gone away and now service there sucks.

I can't vouch for what has happened at the truck stops, but that makes perfect sense. Low wages hurts more than just the person that is earning them.
