FedEx Freight | Attendance policy

"Written warning" for "calling out sick once in a blue moon"....really????
You obviously didn't understand how the old attendance policy worked!! You could have multiple call ins in a rolling six month period before anything was done...and that's the way the system was designed, to allow for that "once in a blue moon" call in.
Yes! Written warning! You think I voted in the union because we just had a bad day? You couldn't get a day off no matter what the reason. Take your sick kids to the doctor? Get your ass to work!

I never heard of anybody getting a written warning for calling out sick. You must of misunderstood the policy on calling out.

Exactly folks. It may be peaches and cream at your terminal but in many terminals around the country there is rampant abuse by management all stemming from the corporate offices.

If things are so bad at all these other centers, why haven't there been more petitions filed?
Because people are afraid and have no balls that's why. It takes a lot to shake them up to the point of action. Took me a several years of weak raises, abusive policies, and horrendous benefits to get things moving. Then We had to organize. Takes lots of time and involvement and most people don't want to bother because they're too busy or too afraid or don't want to get in trouble, fearing their jobs.

Take the day off and take your sick kids to the doctor....under the old policy, you could do it 3 times in a rolling 6 months before you received a coaching session that disappeared 6 months later.
A coaching session, whoopty damn do, not that big of deal really.

Whoopty damn do? How about leave me the bleep alone? How about be a respectable company and understand there are times when personal situations arise? How about being an employer that doesn't have a cloud hanging over your head every morning you walk through the gate? That is one of the primary reasons we voted yes to protect our jobs so I don't have to worry about nonsense like that. I've missed plenty of dinners I've missed plenty of games for this job I expect a little respect to be shown my way to once in a great while when I actually need it since I have earned it

I'll not disagree that we haven't earned the right to take the time we've accrued but some/you fail to understand that we're in the service industry...our customers come first since we've sold them a service and by providing that service is what pays our bills.
Again, that's why the attendance system was set up the way it was, you could miss multiple days in a rolling six month period without reprimand and even then it took another two days before things got serious. 5 days to cover "personal situations" in a rolling 6 month period seems pretty lenient to me!! I even had a HR rep tell me they'd be disappointed if I didn't call in and take a day off to attend one of my child's extra curricular activities when I was denied a scheduled day!!
"Leave you alone"...don't draw attention to yourself and you'll be left alone. "Cloud over your head when you walk through the gate".,.seems to me you're one of those guys that invites that cloud every morning, come in, do your job, and go home and you'll be fine. We have plenty of guys that do this everyday and they're usually the happiest ones!! "Protect your job"....the company doesn't fire people, people fire themselves!!
If you expect to be home for dinner or attend games through the week then you're in the wrong profession, I don't know of any LTL driving job that's 9-5!!

Get a grip and quit trying to give advice like he is new to the buisness. That policy you keep speaking of doesn't mean his center management didn't do the things he was saying. Not every manager follows the rules.

Not giving advice, playing devil's advocate....not every driver follows the rules either!!

If you take a sick day, get a doctors excuse. Then attach a copy of DOT rule 392.3 , time stamp both if possible & turn in to you supervisor. As long as you don't take every Friday or Monday off for a long weekend you should not have any problem. But to be safe copy & document everything you sign for or any notices posted by management. It might save you hide down the road.

Lets review and compare...
February 2014, a certain lady in HR in Poconos region(M.H) tells a room full of grown men at EPH "if you don't want to be disciplined and written up for calling out sick, my advice to you is to get the flu shot"....
In the meantime, every time you asked for a personal day off, DENIED. If you called out sick once in a blue moon, written warning. ONE GUY OFF A WEEK FOR VACATION CALENDAR WITH 35 CITY GUYS ON BOARD!!!
Around March or April 2014, visit to Teamsters Local 107
October 2014, Election and Union victory at EPH. Happily, that certain lady in HR fired!
Since then, all policies revamped or reduced or thrown out altogether. Nice coming to work without fear and being able to call out for an emergency without somebody looking to hang you. Thanks for updating our handbook Teamsters, much appreciated!
Remember 392.3. Read it, understand it, use it anytime management wants to play hard ball. Learn how to counterpoint with your boss. Oh yea, the guy that was suspended for a week, might have a job action claim under the National Transportation Safety Act if within 180 days from his time off. Something to consider. Here is a link to an attorney I have know for a long time. This page lists some of his successful cases in helping truck drivers. http://www.truckersjusticecenter.com/significant-cases/

As a foot note to my earlier post, some of Paul's clients, 'drivers wronged by their employer' took the time to understand the DOT reg's & learned how to fight for their rights that were abused by the company. Not easy to do but it can be done. There was one city driver who was fired by Roadway 7 times thru out his employment with them & regained his job & all lost wages, pension fund payments, & medical bills each time. Each time he chose to represent himself in all meetings rather than using a steward or Business Agent. I personally would not like to go that route but I also believe in the Boy Scout Motto 'Be Prepared'. Your 1500.00 a week job might depend on it. von.

I am proud of you. Management has got to hate you every time you quote that rule. But, they do not go near violating that rule for fear of an INFORMED driver NOT SCARED to exercise his rights under that regulation. Also don't forget the rules on bad equipment. Be sure you DOCUMENT ALL interactions with management when invoking these rules. When they see you making copies or making notes or having a witness present, all of a sudden they become very careful on what they say & do. Their necks are on the chopping block, just like yours. Von.

Ya know what I'm tired of?? There are days that I just don't get enough sleep (sorry, its just life trying to sleep during the day), however I always make certain I make gate to and fro.. I'm tired of these redshirts coming out to the truck or sending a yard jockey out to bang on my door telling me they need me on the dock!!!! This is becoming a real hassle. How 'bout hiring more GD part time dock workers to run your freight and let me drive home safely
