R&L | Taking pride in these new rides

All you guys talking about the automatics are welcome. About 2007, maybe 06 we were talking to the safety man and shop superinterndant at the time out in the yard. The subject of automatic transmissions came up. My view was no self respecting truckdriver would drive one. You know what happened next. We were presented with one of 2 autos they bought to try out. Needless to say we were not happy, we being the wife and myself. We ran team out of Wilmington, and later Louisville. 849,000 miles later they had to tear it out of our hands. We loved it. The only bad part was about the first 6 months the factory engineers would come in on our days off and tinker with the shift points, rpms, etc. We would come in on Tuesday morning and have a completely different truck for that week. It eventually selltled down and did great the whole time we had it, and yes it was great in the winter time. I am just sorry it took you guys so long to get them. Enjoy your new equipment, you more than deserve it. Stay safe out there.
Good to see you posting. Don't be a stranger.

This is the first auto iv driven and after about the first couple weeks I didnt give it another thought, took a minute to get both sides of the tranny right.

The auto trans is nice. The 3 axle really rides nice and is very quiet. I have had a lot of new trucks in my career but I have to say the paint on these new tractors really catches the eye and I have a lot of other drivers say the unit looks great. The paint seems to be the highlight. We are getting a few single axle pete's in but they look more like toys than big trucks. You know though the new truck zin has started to wear off a bit and it has begun to turn back in to a job. A good job but the thrill is wearing off. Am I just getting old? I hope not. One thing is for sure......this truck will be shining the day I retire.

Adios

Test drove one of your new Peterbilts today. Had the Bose seat in it and must say it was a smooth ride.
Thinking about putting one in my truck but having a hard time with the price $$$$$.
How is it after 500 - 600 miles ??

the seat auto adjusts to your weight automatically. They're nice. Sure you can do the manual adjust also. The auto setting doesn't pound you like some seats....the manual setting can bottom out if you're a big guy. Probably worth the investment if you put a lot of miles in on a daily basis.

To hell with the ride. I don't have a sensitive butt like the prima donnas and sissies I work with.

How does it corner?

My new International is the best city twin screw Ive ever had. Turns on a dime and the fairings are well out of the way for backing. Only thing I hate is the speed of the transmission as far as response. Its slow as hell to respond when you need it to.

the pete trans will up and downshift within that manual button whether in manual or drive. ordinarily I don't use it but I have played with it occasionally to see what advantage or disadvantage it gives me. as far as the full screw goes I love what I have. The unit itself....as shadow know....is the best looking unit I have ever pulled. It rides, handles, steers as good as anything I have driven. as a matter of fact I have always felt more comfy backing in a tandem tractor. It allows you more vision backing in. I hate to say this but I prefer to blindside in as I can see better than drivers side. I know I know company policy.....but I don't agree with that part of company policy. As far as I am concerned I drive the nicest rig R+L has on the road.

I hope when I get back from Vacation, I still have the nicest tractor at the terminal but others have been using it while I have been gone.

The Internationals have a big electrical issue. Many sleepers and day cabs are towed to the Scr yard because of an electrical panel outside of the cab that gets exposed to the elements. Most are covered under warranty but some make it further and company eats it. I'm curious if International is fixing the issue or not

Problem is that if it does go in for warranty work it can take forever. Internationals at my terminal seem to have several issues and a company I deliver to has had several issues with their international trucks. So far my pete is problem free. My concern is if a line haul driver takes my truck and is really late getting back. Dirt I can fix. Late truck I can't. So far so good.

Latest I hear from the shop is that they have had it with the Internationals. They are going with nothing but Petes from here on out.

Internationals are done. Way too many problems. Company bought a mix of 3,500 Internationals and petes. Petes electrical steering wheel problems are fixed so the last 1,500 tractors company is buying are all petes from what I'm told. Internationals have constant electrical/egr problems so their done.

the pete's are having some sort of AC fade problem which they come to the terminal and fix. But of course it needs to be completely no cold before they come out. Internationals have always had an air conditioning issues which I hoped they would fix. Also the 2015 and 2016 Internationals are having some major engine issue which they are recalling and replacing the whole truck. If you get a chance get a pete although they are sending the pete's where there is an authorized pete repair shop. I would think up there in freight world there should be someone to come to the termianl to do warranty work. I'll get you a pic tomorrow.

turn on the green light and it adjusts to you with the softest light ride. Takes a little getting use to but once you let it auto adjust you will be fine.
