I heard rumor that there is at least one driver from KC that they put a mobile eye in his sixteen series. I also heard he had a sensor on the right side of his tractor that senses vehicles in your blind spot on the right and I thought they had added one more thing to his truck. Anybody else hear of this going on?

I thought the 16's had all that in them from the factory?

They don't have mobile eyes. They have what is called lane guidance, but it's factory installed. The 10 spd trucks they got have the blindspot sensors with one sensor pointed fwd and one on the rear of the cab, all factory installed. There is a display on the dash to monitor all of it. The front sensor shows following distance, lane location, and the speed of the vehicle in front of you. The side just shows that there is something there. I wouldn't mind having it. However, they also have adaptive cruise that backs out of the throttle when you get to close to someone. There was rumor that it applied the brake also, but that is false. A guy I work velocity has one and showed me all this after he got it. I drove a 16 series auto last week shutting equipment, but they don't have the sensor system. They do have lane guidance, but that can be turned off with a switch on the dash. They also have adaptive cruise, as well as a very strong engine brake. When you get to close to someone, it kicks the Jakes on until you're back far enough. The auto is really weird to me. For over 30 years there has been a shifter and a clutch. I got the nervous sensation when coming to an intersection that I was out of control due to the fact you just step on the brake like a 4 wheeler, but its not a 4 wheeler. It would just take some getting used to it.

I understand what they come with from the factory, one of my buddies ran into a KC driver in Milwaukee Saturday and he said and showed my buddy that they had added a mobile eye to his truck besides the factory set up stating that it did things that the factory equipment did not. I do not know any more details about it.

Oh ok, hadn't seen that yet. I wonder if it is for the tattle tale feature? You'd think that the factory features would have that too.

The only thing I could think of is that on the factory features do many of those things only work when you have the cruise control turned on and when you are running off of the foot pedal some of it is overridden?

The side and front sensor units are on all the time. I turned the one in the automatic truck off as soon as I started moving. I've got by without it for the last 30 years, and I really don't find a need for it now.

I thought in the future E-logs were going to be mandatory. You are allowed to use a paper log as backup? How many days can you paper log as backup? Sometimes it takes Holland a while to get stuff fixed.

What happens if an AOBRD stops working?
If an AOBRD fails, the driver must:

  • Note the failure of the device;
  • Reconstruct his/her logs for the current day and the previous 7 days, less any days for which the driver has records; and
  • Continue to prepare a handwritten log until the device is working again.
