FedEx Freight | New Tractor speeds

Like everything else you spew on here your math amazes me. You have to drive flat on the floor all day. You are doing everything you can to avoid traffic delays including driving on them back roads thru the woods. Your pay goes down in traffic and theirs goes up. Do you realize they get $35 for tasks and run less miles a day because of the CA truck speed limit. You can run 65 mph max and they can only run 55 mph max. I'll bet their day is a lot less stressful than yours. Here is my math $35 divided by 55 mph is .636 per mile and they get $10 an more on their tasks.
Not sure how I missed this but thought I'd return to address your mistakes...and Silent Trucker or anyone else who's domiciled in CA can correct me if I'm wrong.

You are incorrect, our drivers in California do NOT receive the enhanced mileage hourly rate for their task preformed but rather their regular hourly rate...and they're now compensated for their actual time taken to preform these task, it's no longer a fixed compensation pay for them as it is for everyone else in the country.

Your math is wrong!!

From the guy who can't do basic math, who thinks he is making 40 bucks an hour, i would take anything you say with a grain of salt.

I've gotta side with the others here. I average $36/h @ 65mph, and it hurts when I drag a load up the various hills in the Rockies in BC, some of which bring me down to 40mph or less depending on the load weight. And that doesn't include slowing down for icy winter conditions. My pay gets dented again when I am limited to 60mph in Northern Ontario.

If someone offered me $35/h flat rate pay, I wouldn't change my habits, but it'd be nice knowing hills and lower speed limits weren't hitting me in the wallet. I'm out her for 4.25 days every week, sometimes 4.5 days depending on weather and traffic conditions. That extra 6 hours for driving through bad weather or traffic is something I don't get paid for when I'm paid by the mile.

Thanks ST, for the updates and factual account on the effects of the new system in Ca.

SR, no worries. Just for everyone else, I clock in to "Road Driver", with a subgroup I can't think of right now...and the only time I punch any other group (lower wage), is for education, drug tests or dock work. All driving, drop/hook, pre trip/post trip, deadlining equipment is paid at the higher rate.

On vacation this week, and I'll remember the subgroup at some point...ah, middle age....

Ca driver's get the higher hourly rate for all line related tasks. Only get lower rate when on dock or training.

Yep! But hardly impactful since most line haul is within a 50 mile radius in SoCa so essentially the bulk of your money is coming from the 26 or so per hr on the dock. And living in California ain't cheap so that's just my take

I'm going to respectfully disagree...even the shuttle drivers in my barn spend more time hooking/breaking and driving than they do working the dock.

And again you are WRONG. Just like you were WRONG about the big event at the terminal this week. Boy you had the big wheels turning.

Yes, I received bad intel from an unreliable source...it appears I was wrong, I should've double checked the info before posting and you can bet it won't happen again!! The fact still remains we make more on mileage pay with less hours worked than they do with their enhanced hourly pay!!
As for the "big wheels", they turn themselves!!

Yes on a perfect day.( I know your run...how many of those days were there this week ? ) Remember when your setting in that mess out there or driving around the back roads and your hourly rate is dropping, for the hourly driver that rate is not moving. My "reliable" sources tell me that they have a lot less stress in their trips now. I believe it. I think that's a good thing.

Only one this week, yes, the bridge construction will be over soon and everything will be back to normal/perfect. A couple weeks of construction won't offset the months of normal/perfect that I've previously enjoyed.
If working longer days just to equal what you were making would lessen your stress, more power to ya, there's nothing stopping you from moving/moving back to Cali....have fun!!

Oh i can't do that. I then would miss your smiling face. Have a great day...

UPS just got a memo sent out and passed recently because a lot of drivers were complaining about being stuck out in the hammer lane. So guess what, there trucks will top out at 73 instead of 70. Had one pass me on 270 going across the river headed towards their Earth City,Mo facility and he was doing every bit of that 73.

Well Fedex answer will be slow us down even more, you shouldn't be passing anybody. There new Pete's can't get out of its own way. I'm loosing around 10 minutes each way

Well I'm in a newer Volvo R 18xxx and I have to cheat the gate some to keep the same transit time as if I were in a Four digit Volvo. WITH BALD TIRES! Ridiculous!
