ABF | Ue going to 5 days?

I do wonder what all of this Union talk is. At 034, the company did as it pleased on the 710 side. And the union stewards would actually take part in the bitching, as if they had no control over anything.

It was almost as if they viewed themselves as class presidents. They had won an election, but lacked the power to actually do anything.

Do ue drivers get overtime after 8 or 10 hrs or are they straight pay. I assumed they got ot but another road driver said they don't.
Yes they get overtime. A four day UE works 10 hours a day before overtime and a 5 day UE should be on an 8 hour before overtime per rules in the contract just like a regular city guy.

Pretty good analogy.......some places do regard steward elections as popularity contests.......

The main power of a steward resides in the support and faith of his fellow employees. The contract itself gives stewards very little overt power........but a good knowledge of the contract........and the full backing of his men.........coupled with the "Chutzpah" to not be intimidated or browbeaten by various and sundry management types..........all that makes a very effective steward.....

Management doesn't have to like you.....just respect you........And YOUR values.....

When I go in with a meeting with management, I insist that swearing and displays of juvenile anger have NO place in our conversation.........We are talking about serious things, and we will do it in a business-like manner......

I'm well aware of the management tactic of bluster and bloviating to the point where both sides sound like a junior high school playground..........and the original point of the meeting gets lost in the shuffle......

The best power a steward.......or anyone.....can have, is to sit down with that contract book.....and actually READ the danged thing........cover to cover..... Believe me, your TM has....

Plus the extra dollar an hour for UE .
Unless the driver is lucky enough to be on one of the original mileage runs. In that case they do a computation using mileage (with UE bonus) for all the time spent driving and straight time pay for hourly work (dock, pre-trip, yard, etc) vs figuring it as entirely hourly with OT. Whichever pays more is what you will get. So with many of the old runs the mileage and straight time pays more than hourly with OT. So some guys don't get OT, but still make more than if they did. Canary is correct about the $1 bonus on the hourly rate, but I don't remember what the bonus is on mileage...

Muler would know that. Think he is in one of those areas.

They know exactly what they are doing. Elimination of rhe road boards through purchase transportation, red circle drivers quitting because they aren't working, and UE drivers acting as cheaper versions of road drivers. Give her a few more months and UE will be working 6 days a week. Without a change ofvoperations or union approval of any kind. Page 23, on the bottom. Last paragraph...

That's pretty much it. This company isn't gaining new business,.......so if one classification of employee starts making substantially more money,...they are doing it at the expense of another group of employees.

Our UE turn is 626 miles,.....plus dock work. Add another 626 mile turn per week........and , boy!,......you can now really afford that solid gold casket you got your eye on!

I guess people have to die before .management gets realistic....

I wonder what the "death quota" is before management changes back to 4/10's

They don't care how many hours you are working on those 4/10s. All they see is we can get another day out of this guy. And make sure you give them 100%. And make sure you don't go a minute over your break or your 30 minute rest on your ELD. Real genius making this decision. How did ABF survive all these years without Mike Moss?

If Mike Moss is serious about changing ABF he better start with his own! You have ever thing to monitor the drivers/dock workers, now monitor how it's run....

Now wouldn't that be something? Short staffed terminals that " aren't allowed to hire", stop missing pick ups because drivers can't be in two places at once, give the UE guys the actual freight that is due, not the BS due next week...

Just got a recall letter for almost 1 year on layoff... I guarantee it will be short lived based on what has been going on lately. The only thing that may help is if FedEx overwhelms themselves with cheap freight and tears up enough to **** people off.

I agree with evert thing you said, and I hope you continue to work....
