ABF | 60 Hour bid!

Our UE runs are changing from 4 tens to 5 eights. Since the DCs we run to are both at least 5 hours one way, with time added to drop and hook, both runs will be right at 60 hours. I am going to stay on the bid long enough to file a grievance for excessive overtime. The contract specifically states that you can only be forced to work 2 hours over except you have to "complete your run". Since the runs are forcing nearly 12 hours a day on an 8 hour bid it seems to me that violates the intent if not the actual wording of the contract. The "finish your run" language was intended to allow the company to force a city driver to make all his deliveries and pickups before coming back to the terminal. It was never meant to allow the company to post 12 hour runs. Has anyone else out there had a similar situation, and if so has it been filed on before? And what was the outcome? Any help would be great. Thanks.

145, seems the UE that come here 5 days a week aren't that far, the farthest is just over 4 hours one way. We have mutilple UE drivers
1-179
3-146
2-141

They start different times to make sure they get to 145 around 0:00 midnight mon-fri. I'm positive almost all or all get close to the 60 hr work week.

Hope all goes well with the different schedule.

Lots of Ue guys like the ot. Bid off if you don't like it
I don't recall asking for a smart assed answer, but thanks for your worthless input. This is another perfect example of how little the company thinks of it's employees. Someone at our terminal will be FORCED to take this bid when I bid off in six weeks. Not everyone thinks money is more important than time with family and friends. For the people who would rather work than live their lives, there is usually weekend work that they can hoover up.

Other workers can file the grievance not just the driver of the UE. Excessive overtime effects not only the driver getting all the honey but the guy he is taking a job away from. You being Mr. union now should know that though rite?
The ot is accrued on the way back from the run. How's that affecting others ? Any road driver could of changed boards and become involved in the city ops. Don't give me that crap

The crap is UE is suppose to run NEW BUSINESS! road runs are supposed to be protected. READ THE CONTRACT!!!! City work is protected by excessive overtime which is over two hours past your eight in five day work week or 4 10 hour days. If the run can't be made in either an 8 hour turn in 5 days or 10 hours in a four day work week it is technically illegal under a city run in our contract in UE. That means anyone can file a grievance on any run over the specified time.

Ue runs are designed for overnight and hvxp service . By offering this service, the road board handles the long haul freight and overflow. This is so old news

Again, read the contract! Road bids do overnight freight too. Only difference is road pays more. I run HV turns as a road driver! Wow! Ya, it can be done. Overnight by a road guy. Keep taking a beating and we will all be minimum wage by 2018.

I also am pissed off about my overtime. 60 hours a week of keeping track of all these posts is way more than I bargained for when I retired. My retirement hours must be cut. They are wearing me out.
Any suggestions? Thanks. von.

Yep, grab a beer, a bag of pretzels, turn Judge Judy on and enjoy the ride.

We have 4 UE bids 2 of them go to 042 which is a 540 turn.1 runs a van and swaps freight and the other guys runs a set.Now with the exchange running 5 days a week at 042 they moved 1 of the bids to Tuesday through Friday.Eventually all the exchanges will be 5 days a week.
