Hello.

Question checking for a friend and I am kinda curious myself.

As anyone heard of someone being in as a casual dock or driver-combo. Or even fulltime out the gate.

With either a felony or misdeamnor pot possession charge?

No. And I doubt you get in with that. On the other hand as drivers become less available in the market place my answer would change, but don't hold your nreath.

I'm sorry there buddy, but the felony anything would probably shoot you down for a HAZ-MAT Homeland Security check...........and you need that endorsement to get behind the wheel here.........a misdemeanor pot conviction would probably do you in for the dock work. If they would put you on, after 90 days, they would be contractually responsible for a treatment program, PROVIDED you turned yourself in before a hot urine test. A little pricey there, so a pot conviction would probably raise a red flag. Misdemeanor traffic or disorderly might be overlooked,.............I know in the past NONE of it would be overlooked,..........but they're getting a little desperate in the hiring nowadays.......

Who knows how desperate they'll become in the future.....
.....

OK.

I know my friend told me will looking for a new job. That Yrc or Holland will overlook these. Holland used to be as picky as ABF, guess things change.

I don't think you can even get a CDL if your felony is less than 7 years old but it might be just the Haz-Mat endorsement.

Roy Slagle told city leaders in Memphis a few years ago the company might hire employees for the terminal expansion there for the dock with misdemeanor convictions & no high school diploma or GED. Back then he was wanting a tax incentive from the city to expand the terminal that was supposedly to be completed soon but was never started. The lack of a diploma was waived in the past if the applicant passed the background check. I know several workers that did not have a diploma but were an asset to the company.
I doubt the company will make an exception for a felony conviction. The one thing to never do is to be untruthful on your application.

I have been to 3-4 truck driving schools and have met people there who have a record. The school does not care if you have a felony, and they must not tell these applicants that most carriers, especially ones that haul hazmat, will not hire you. They are glad to take your tuition and have you find out by yourself. I will say that 2 schools I did stop at, that were run by community colleges, do tell potential applicants right up front. There are some crappy driving schools, just like some crappy trucking companies.

Just out of curiosity, I have heard that the yard in Lawrenceville has had a posting for part-time dock/driver. Are they saying that as to mean casual working full weeks and then after 30 days you get put on permanent? That yard they took over there is right down the street from my house, just wondering what they're actually needing.

I am not there but to me casual part time means four hours if and when they need you. That 'driver' part throws me a ittle because I didn't think that part timers were allowed to drive. Part time barely pays anything (I'm thinking $14/hr.) and I wouldn't expect to be treated very well by the work force, you'd be the red headed step child. Casual driver on the other hand is guaranteed 8 hrs if they're used and it could end up full time but not necessarily, you would have to go there and ask.

I work there and just talked to TM and he said that he has over 100 apps. right now so he took the posting down. He was looking for two different people. One was a part time dock worker which is only 4 hours. The other was a driver casual that would drive and work the dock. If you were to drive you would have to have all the qualifications and endorsements.

Like I said it was more out of curiosity than anything. I really don't want to leave OD, but having a 5 minute commute would be nice...
The next contract is gonna be the make or break for most union shops imo. OD is very profitable and isn't the worst place to be. Certainly not the best either depending on where you live. In the east their good on the west middle of the road. In basing this on funding levels of the teamster retirement fund. I'm not sure when OD pays ot or if they even do but the older I get i wanna get paid to basically live at work.

Don't think I haven't thought about moving to Kingman AZ and working out of the ABF relay yard because I have... great weather and western states pension...

Did the TM get any of the 100 on record of being able to pass a drug test????
