Hi guys what's cooking? Schools are back in session now (man what a downer for all those kids) and we've been busy with schools. Friday yesterday 9-2-2016 I got killed with stops and cases I think I was out close to 13 hours. My throat is all scratchy right now, I think I might be getting sick I don't know. Usually I'm not sick, but it happens. It's been hot and I didn't get much sleep this week LOL!

I bought a new car this week and I used to have about 4 cars, but I've since sold off 3 of them all gone and now I've got one more to sell and that's it. So that's how that goes decided to do some down sizing and it's been great. After a while it's nice to sell stuff that you don't need off.

Anytime you get into the same environment as kids you're bound to pick up something, good luck with that, so are you getting out of the car service biz?

Yes sir, here's what the story on that was. The friend who was helping me he's divorced had a bad run of it so alright so we started this little enterprise because he worked in the limo business and it also helped him like I said he had a bad run of it and it helped him out transportation wise, well I've always kind of had side business . Well anyhow we got into it and I thought well maybe there will be something here time will tell. Well time told and I didn't see any further potential and there were insurance issues that couldn't be overcome and I was starting to at the same time have a fairly decent size chunk of change saved up in the bank and I thought, I have to concentrate now on work (not that I wasn't and saving more money) the folks I think have had enough of me living at home LOL! They won't ever kick me out, but time's coming and truth be told that's alright. Although I can't say I actually mind living with the folks there pretty cool and there's always food and stuff to eat and stuff plus all the other perks that come with living at home.

Anyhow I thought you know what I've been pretty generous to my friend, but my generosity can only go so far and he fully comprehended that. His problem in my and his opinion was when I gave him a car to drive why didn't he when he was getting help from me and another why didn't he go and do something to help him self?
Like I still have one car to sell that he's driving and I know for a fact he hasn't even bothered to try and find another ride. Well when someone comes around and at this point offers me $4,800 for my 2004 Suburban I'll take it and he'll be left without a paddle.

It's not I'm against helping people but you know when people are helping you out take advantage of it do what you have to do to better your situation often times people get help and that's there plan just to get help not I need help to bridge the gap between A and B so I don't know some people they just get down in a hole and that's it there done written it off as a loss and that is it.

Anyhow even though it's not over yet had a very what I feel was a and so far has proven to be a good and productive year at work so far. This year at work I switched to our 6th largest route in our little branch division. Also worked through out the GFS system did a tour of duty in Aberdeen,Maryland in the beginning of August. Then also past couple weeks worked in the road division of the company at our division warehouse in Pittsburgh running volume truck loads between PA and Ohio. Also went with a chain driver up to St.Mary's PA to do some stops, so now they have me floating around the system at times. A lot of it was me riding with new guys. The one guy was nice guy 41 starting at GFS has is first job ever in trucking he had had his CDL for 4 weeks. That was down in Maryland and he was trying hard, but man people get into working for GFS for the first time in there life doing food work at age 40 and 50 and it takes it out. We have guys at my yard who are in there 40s-50s but they also have been doing the work since day one so it's a little different.

So that's what's been cooking.

Well that's gotta be a pretty good monkey to get off your back, I'm sure it will free up plenty of time on the weekends for you, and all worrying about cars and repair issues.

Yes exactly right, I'm pleased to have that monkey off of my back. I have one more vehicle to sell and then I'm done. It was like running a used car lot here for a while, but 3 out of 4 are now sold off. I will say this much though. I never really minded owning 2 cars what's nice about that is, if one breaks down, then you have another you can drive and vise versa.

@kboomarang you'll love this, right before I sold the Astrovan it started acting up. Long story short new fuel injector system needed to be installed. My cost $1,400 ahh good times...:1904:

I would like to do gfs chains but those jobs never come open down here. I am about tired of the mom and pops stops. I swear some days I feel like a ups or FedEx man. 20 stops and 15 of them are less than 10 cases.

2wheeler GFS doesn't have anything down there for Chaindrivers. Good gravy up here up north and in Maryland, Boston, Springfield and Pittsburgh all they want are chain drivers. I could transfer over to chains in 5 minutes if I wanted to up here. I know Douglassville, GA that's all they have and that's all they hire are chain drivers.

My boss just did a run down in GA and he said the one day he had 6 stops in Montgomery, AL and it was a chain route and it was mostly french fries and chicken 2500lbs a stop. I don't know for sure, but I know GFS in GA has mostly chains because they do not have that much broad line business. I know it's true though I have not seen Kannapolis hiring very much.

Greenville used to be a chain warehouse. It's now a drop lot for chains. GFS recently found a buyer for the building GFS shut down a lot of there chain only warehouses and went with a different plan. The Greenville, was merged into the Douglassville, Warehouse.

Wow did not know that. Why did they shut down chain warehouses? I see them rolling Red Robin, Bob Evans and Moe's and a couple more. Looks better than 18 stops and 900 cases a day.

The big trouble with those small stops while actual 2 wheeling time is way less everything else takes the same time as any other stop, from parking to getting a signed invoice( sometimes worse than a bigger stop).

They merged the warehouses into the newer bigger warehouses. What happened was in Greenville and Pottsville GFS only did chains they had no broadline business. Pottsville was a bad location logistically and with GFS buying out Perkins in MA, building a warehouse in Pittsburgh,PA and then opening up shop in Aberdeen,MD there was a triangle and Pottsville had a lot of over lap and other stuff and Pottsville no longer fit into the GFS system and it made more sense to get rid of it and take it's western runs and throw those in Pittsburgh. Take it's North East Runs and put those in Massechusets and take it's Washington DC area/Mid Atlantic East Coast Runs and move those to Aberdeen, MD.

As for Greenville, the drop lot exists, but the way they went into the market they built a warehouse in Douglassville,GA and the warehouse they built in Douglassville is bigger and has automations that Greenville doesn't have and they took the Greenville operation and merged it into the newer Douglassville, operation.

As for Ocala, FL chain warehouse, GFS had been in Florida for a very long time and because of that had a lot of broadline business in Florida, well they had like two warehouse around Tampa and one was Ocala which only did chains, well they ended up buying out the old Albertson's warehouse in Plant City, FL which was big enough to do both chains and broadline and that was that and they shut down the Ocala,FL chain warehouse.

The closing of the chain only warehouses was really just a consolidation move, plus the changed business strategies a little bit as well which was also part of it.

Yes you loose more time on those stops. The cases are always on the bottom to.
I was going to say sometimes those small stops are even worse because the people do not know what to do verses a stop that gets two deliveries a week each delivery 200 cases.

What's up @MikeJ how you been!? Well Imaintained back at us foods my 3rd time being there guess I just can't enough of that handtruck
No more Old Dominion? Have fun at US Foods the US Foods in C-Town is constantly hiring for some reason they can't keep people.

It's true you still have to drive to a small stop still have to park still have to open the trailer up still have to dig the stuff out. It all takes time and effort. For less reward.
