We ain't the only ones !!! South Carolina public employees too !!! At least we don't personally pay into CSPF.

"The system paid retirees about $3 billion last year in benefits while collecting $2 billion from public employers and their workers."

"South Carolina's public workers already pay more for benefits than their counterparts in other states, who contribute less than 6 percent of their salaries on average. On July 1, contributions increased by half a percent, to 8.7 percent for workers in the main plan and to 9.2 percent for officers and firefighters in the smaller, law enforcement plan."

The south will rise again, and so will slavery, just this time we'll give it an Orwellien name like right to work. We probably could've avoided the civil war if they had come up with that phrase back then. Lord knows enough people buy into it today.

Most people don't realize it but the south used to be heavily unionized. My hometown of Atlanta used to be very Union friendly including a Labor Day parade but nowadays union members are looked upon very poorly. Most people down there think we are over paid.

That's mostly because of all the textile work that left the south and the country, companies blamed it on high wages and shipped the work and jobs out of the country. To some extant Mexico is having the same issue while cheaper then the U.S. they are losing some jobs to even cheaper places............

And people forget that all the textile work that ultimately left the South for foreign countries originally left the Northeast for the South for the lower wages there. As a kid I used to fall asleep in summertime listening to the machinery droning on all night at the mills across the street from my house.

Were they powered by water wheels?:biglaugh:

the one big difference in the two is that the SC retirement has the state senators and house as members, they will save their retirement!

In SC $13 a hour is the norm a cousin that work for the county of Florence over 20 years was making $16 per hour they cut him to $13. He would never vote for a union. They all are like that a red state. Its a mystery to me how those people make it.
