Yellow | The First Self-driving Car You See May Be An Uber Truck On The Highway

Somewhere there is a think tank working around the clock to figure out how to be rid once and for all, of these pain in ars truck drivers.

So my question is what happens when the damn machines replace all of us? I don't think there are that many openings at Burger King!
Lets face it, Not all of us are Brain Surgeons! That's why we drive a truck. What will we do? What can we do? Better yet what will we be allowed to do?
Something to think about.

Can you imagine how much fun it would be to mess with a driverless truck! It will take multiple guys working together to force it into a wayside and then put garbage cans and dumpsters and picnic tables all around it so the sensors can pick up that they are there and that truck would sit in that wayside for hours and maybe days if a human does not come to it's rescue. And that's just what I thought of in two minutes, give me years to devise plans and we will have disabled driverless trucks in the strangest places all over this country.

That's when the pre-programmed police robots will come and take you away.

I can't see this working in America.
There is debt,on debt, where great, great, great grand kids will hardly put a dent in the interest.
Let alone the principle,of the loans running the country.

Maybe we could start kidnapping our own soldiers and then have Obama pay us hundreds of millions of dollars and we could put it against the debt?

The explosive growth of technology and automation in recent years has greatly reduced the need for actual human workers in many situations. It's only going to get worse for people with limited skills.

I wonder if the dispatcher would have to program the automated truck for it's nightly run? If so I do not believe we have anything to worry about, at least until they teach an automated truck how to correct dispatchers mistakes!

While that technology advances and the workers have fewer options, I fear anti-hacking software will not advance as quickly and will not be endorsed financially as a safety device of greater, if not the greatest importance.

I just started a topic in the Lounge forum about an article I stumbled on while surfing the net.
If you don't read the stuff in the lounge & only stay on this YRC forum here it is.
Believe me its not a pretty picture for the future of trucking as we know it.

I've been a member of truckingboards for 10 years and until you mentioned it I think that's the first time I've been in that forum. Thank you

Define Limited to me please. A Skill is, As in this case truck driving, Something that not everyone can do. Not everyone can be a baker or plumber, so to me a skill is a Skill. We as Human beings should not allow this to happen. But you know it will.

Limited in the sense that more and more expertise in technology will be required going forward. How can you stop it from happening? It's been happening forever only much more quickly recently. Learn, adapt or be left behind.

Then my question is what happens to those "Left behind"? What kind of society are we that we take meaningful work from those that are, As you say "Limited" and let machines do the work.
Do we make the welfare rolls bigger? To take away the diginty (Bad spelling, Sorry) of work away from any Human beings and give it to machines is wrong.
Progress is not all it is cracked up to be. People are gonna get hurt.

Profits always ahead of people. Code of the CEO's of this great country of ours.

Being from the LV you don't have to look far. what happened to those left behind by Bethlehem Steel? The retirees especially got a raw deal on that one. Or Mack truck since the Volvo buy out, less and less of a Mack is actually made by Mack it's mostly a Mack cab on a Volvo now..........................

Come on, it's been happening forever. There used to be guys who were expert at making barrel staves. See any openings for those jobs anymore? How about firemen shoveling coal on steam engines? How about Linotype operators? How about telegraph operators? It's called progress and neither you nor I nor anyone else can stop it. Evolve, learn, and adapt or get left behind.
