ABF | ABF spending more money

Well abf is down to 70 % of arcbest.total revenue. I would have to guess the long term goal is to continue to suck money out of abf while continuing to use it to buy non asset based companies to the point abf is not relevant to the revenue goals in the long term

funny, these purchased companies, use their logistics to book freight vs ABF sales staff now gone, it is then given to purchased transportation, vs ABF freight employees, trucks, etc.. No revenue for us, shows a loss, and a loss of 25 million until the recoop that 25 mil in profit on paper. All this will be used against IBT in negotiations.. This is why it was included in our contract, no purchasing of companies.. but the wording wasn't correct, ARCBEST purchased, not ABF freight. ARCBEST isn't a company without ABF Freight. Judy and her youth and business smarts outwitted the IBT and its Redneck, old man union ways. Testy, angry bitter crap doesn't outsmart Judy.. buys and buys, bonus, raises, promotions since this contract in place.. Us, less vacation, pay cut, purchased transportation. Great move, Yes voters, YRC guys now ABF guys pushing the vote over the Yes thresh hold.. Ask me for any type of a concession and I ::shit:: on floor and quit!!!!

Basically breached your contract in the "essence"

Just like when they migrated the Timekeeper revenues right out from under us over to Panther and the Union refuses to address the grievance on it.

I don't work for you all.Just reading what members have said.Just looked to me to be a breach in contract in the essence.circumventing the contract and prolly paying or has paid an official off to do that

I don't know if money changed hands for it or not but Hoffa has proven to be as worthless as they get. We may as well not even have a union here. He'd better be worried about national right to work, I wouldn't pay for what I'm getting.

I have a question for you, I work for Fedex, and currently CLT and EPH are negotiating, and talk at our yard is starting to rise again, but I was wondering, with all the contracts being violated and nothing being done by the union leadership, please tell me why we should organize. I'm not trying to start any arguments, in fact I am in favor of organizing, but it seems that even with a contract things are not going as they should at the union carriers as they should be. What do I tell the people at my barn why we should organize with all that it seems the teamsters fail to do to protect you? And it's not just ABF, but also UPS and YRC. Any insight would be welcome and thanks on advance for your answers

Don't give up the ship on organizing.I'm pro labor and pro union.I want the best for the working people. The Teamsters are a "brand"if you and your people choose that brand great but there are other "brands" out there (machinist union)If you all organize you all will be able to bargain as a collective. You will put in your contract whatever is agreed upon by you and your co-workers.I would bet that you all would be allowed to be placed in a more stable pension fund other than the cspf. That's only if you all agree collectively to do so.Nothing wrong with voting union.Just make sure you all have language in your contract that protects you and your co-workers jobs.Like purchase transportation and your health benefits and the work rules.God Bless to you all!!

For me it's a hard sell with almost nothing to promote. If you are really pushing for the Teamsters you may have less friends if and when you get a contract and it's not all that you thought and hoped it would be. Chances are that whatever pension you have right now will not change and there is no, zip, zero chance that you will be put into the floundering CSPF so you won't be donating to that, don't worry. Hoffa wants your dues money and he will do whatever it takes to get it. And your contract will be a joke compared to what the National Master Freight Agreement used to be. About the only things our contract has going for it is that it is tough for us to get fired, we get work rules that, for the most part, are followed. And if you get a DUI or test positive for drugs you stand a very good chance of keeping your job, providded that you change your ways, we get a second chance.

The scope of the contract violations and what the Teamsters is doing to us and letting the companies do, though, is appalling. We could talk for hours about that. A few years back the International underhandedly permitted ABF to not make a contractual increase into our pension fund. The money didn't go towards pay, health insurance or anything else, just not agreed upon increase into our pension. In Kentucky, the UPS members rejected their contract and Hoffa and company just shoved it down their throats in spite of the 'no' vote by the members. In Chicago they did the same thing to the freight members out there. Chicago and vicinity used to have their own contract and when they voted it down a few years back Hoffa single handedly abolished their contract and merged it into the National Agreement.

If you want a preview of what your contract would be like here is a link to the UPS Freight Contract, this is the latest work of art to come out of Washington. The last time I reviewed it I found that there are no paid vacation days for new hires for a full year, few or no 8 hour guarantees and a heap of other things that I can't remember at the moment.

And you might want to pop into the UPS Freight forum and ask them how they like their union representation.

The Union idea is a good good one just be careful what you agree to. Members are the Union

Wow. Your post describes the sorry state of the IBT & unions in general. Answer, you should go non-union & hope for the best. Used to be the union wages were so good the non-union payed close to union wages just to keep them out. That argument does not hold water any more. Hence, my reason for non union. Current Fed Ex wages would put you around 58 bucks a month for dues. For what? Save your dues money, invest that potential dues money in a 401k from the day you hire in. You will be way ahead of the game. I was lucky to work for a union carrier & get 2 grand a month in pension, which will be cut in half very soon. So I am lucky, I did not pay one dime in weekly medical premiums the entire time I was under a union contract. That is a huge benefit. But now days, the union might not be the best choice, @ least in the trucking field. Would I do it all over again the union way? You bet. But 18 years later that answer is no, I would not. If anything I would go owner operator. But with ELD, sleep app masks, speed limiters, etc, why would anyone want to start a profession in the trucking industry in the US. Just staying compliant with all the laws & rules would see most people running away from this profession, not to it. von.

The money party is not the biggest concern I have. Our insurance is a joke. I live in what is called a rural area even though our county employees have the same insurance, they pay less than I do because we have what they call out of area, not much difference than out of network, but it is better than that. The other 2 items are work rules and pension, currently our pension is way under funded so it's not a bad as CSPF but it's close. Instead of printed rules they are on our company intranet and they can be changed whenever without notice and that is one of my biggest issues

According to redracer & a few others on your forum your insurance is the best thing since sliced bread....lol

Members used to be the union and whether or not they agree is irrelevant, Hoffa and company will just force feed us whatever they want, after all, Jimmy knows best. Are you familiar with what went down with the UPS Small Package folks in KY and the freight guys in Chicagoland?
