We're headed into winter. It's also an election year. I would wait till March. Unless you just want to work weekends and need the insurance.
The weekend is probably the only time you will work, that's why you should wait till spring. Winter is the slow time of year. Talk to someone at the bottom of the extra board and see how they are working.
You'll probably work more than that but it's better to know up front how it could turn out. It won't start getting slow till after thanksgiving. Also you don't have to work a certain amount of days to get insurance just have to be available.
