Yellow | I quit

I didnt see any mention of health care, can you please elaborate and post who your new employer is?

I now work for Estes.
Healthcare is very reasonable.
A family of four is $71 wk.
A man & spouse is $50 wk.
A man by himself is no charge.
If you do the math (straight time) on making over $4.00 more per hr plus not paying union dues you'll find it pays better.
If you enjoy spending your life working overtime and you count on 60+ hrs a wk then that's up to you. But for me having time w my family and working 40-45 hrs is perfect.

A family of 4 is $3,408 a year, husband & wife comes out to $2,400, union dues $720 a year & tax deductible. But as long as your happy do what's best for you, because every company sucks anymore....

After 25yrs I too have decided to quit. I can't take the long hours, the worn out old equipment, the lack of manpower, the low wages, the loss of pension, bad management, and the lack of pride at YRC. It's an embarrassment when you show up at a customers dock.
I'm not proud to call myself a Teamster anymore either. They have robbed us blind over the years.
I'm sick of being taken advantage of!
Everyone has their own situation but for me a job at the non-union competition is more lucrative, less stressful and most of all less hours. Many guys at my barn runs out of hours in the city almost daily. 12-14 hrs a day is ridiculous. They won't hire anyone and work conditions continue to deteriorate.
There's nothing left! We have held out hope all these years that things are going to turn around and yrc will get back on their feet. Wake Up people!! They are trying to kill us literally. The 15% will never come back. The pension is nearly dry. The state of the equip is so bad that it's impossible to replace it at this point.
They hav used me long enough. It's time to be happy driving a truck again.
Good bye yrc and good luck to all of you that are stuck w no possible way out.

Kind of sad about your post. The union or unions have & are coming full circle. They started to give the worker a better wage & work conditions. Now, they have become just the opposite. Companies are starting to offer just a little less or more in some cases than the CBA obtained by your local. This is how they keep a CBA out of their company. You can blame everybody or anything. But I blame myself & all my fellow rank & file retired or not in allowing it to happen. No one but the union membership has had the biggest effect on the decline of unions. I would do it all over again. I have benefited greatly from working under a CBA. But, based on my inaction, just like the rest of my fellow brother & sisters I been the cause & effect of the demise of my union by not being active enough or doing nothing when I should of. Von.

Don't blame me, I voted 'no'.

Top scale is $4.19 more per hr. That's about $8700 more per year.
You're right, I am happy. It's not all just about money either.

Deductions - unless you itemize and follow along here, the standard deduction the feds give you on your income taxes in 2016 was $6300 for singles and couples filing seperately, the deduction goes to over $12000 for married filing jointly. Now how much union dues and work boots and clothes- remember clothing can only be deducted if its clothing that is exclusively worn at work and cant be worn anywhere else for any purpose. Also because mortgage rates are so low the interest is now becoming non deductible because your standard deduction far exceeds your interest.

A senior man in my bard has already explained this higher wage thing to me countless times but the one thing that is the seperation factor is that you have no protection at Estes or these non union companies. Your boss can ride you as hard as he wants and treat you like trash all day long and there isnt anything your going to do about it. You have an accident, your gone, you dont work as hard as they want you to, your gone. Ill take the bs I got for the free insurance and the daily overtime vs having to always walk on glass.

I disagree a little with you von, sure the membership has to accept some of the blame, but IMO the worst thing was deregulation of the trucking industries, it allowed anyone to get Authority and were able to start non-union companies. I work at a non-union now and it's really hard to get organization going because nobody wants to deal with it too much. I truly believe that we need representation but getting the idea across to some people is like talking to a brick wall. You can talk till you're blue in the face to some people and it still no point in it that's why I was asking all the questions I asked to get ideas what to tell people and try to get organized

Your union dues, work clothes, boots, gloves, and any other work related goods are not going to change your tax liability that much anyway. Just sayin....

I respect your comments. But I still go back to what I said. As long as a company pays you close to or above what union wages & benefits are, the employees will never vote in a union. The only BIG diff is the bosses can & will make your life more unpleasant in a non-union work place, usually.

Well I'm a ABF road driver I made $92 last year only paid around 720 in union dues I'm pretty damn happy no company is perfect they all suck we have two ex Estes guys who got sick they came back and were fired lots of butt kissing at the none union comps just like people walking into Walmart blind sheep lead to the slotter keep kissing that butt
