Hello again,no it was not my intention to target any individuals for past errors.
However I was just showing the history of the start of the drain on the pension fund.
Bet a lot of you didn't know there was around 3500 union LTL's back in the day when we were proud Teamsters.
Yep the union had the power to bring about a lot of changes in our working conditions.

Then WHAMO the government broke the unions starting with the Air controllers, then deregulating the trucking industry.
So from 3500 to now only less than a handful of union companies remaining, how sad.

Any how life goes on & everyone has to do the best they can with what they have.

That's where we have a difference of opinion. I believe the downfall started with the Federal Mafia's 1982 consent decree because they weren't about to let anyone intrude on their territory. If there was any money to be made off the backs of the workers, it would be them and their banker pals. The profits would go to them, not the workers. There would be no Robin Hoods getting away with anything on their watch!

The Teamsters Union is doing quite well actually. There are about 40 Divisions in the Teamsters, everything from Motion Picture and Theatrical Trade to the Public Services Division. They are doing quite well, the lone exception is the Freight Division and it really just doesn't matter to them anymore. Freight means shallow pockets, they've moved on to greener pastures......you don't matter.

That's the sad truth of it all!

First, you say that your profile on TB is bogus. Second, you say that you also lie on Facebook. So how can you expect anyone with half a brain to take you seriously and believe anything that you have to post? I'm sorry but the only point that I see you have made is that you readily admit that you are prone to lie which you obviously don't find anything wrong with. Why is that? You may want to look in the mirror the next time before you accuse others of being ignorant and irresponsible.
I'd say he sounds like a politician, except they never admit that their liars!

FREIGHT MAN I believe you owe Mr. Zuckerman and the other candidates on the Teamster United slate an apology. I'm sure they do not want to be associated with you trashing a member of good standing. A mans character is judged by the company he keeps. By quoting nounionfool (DOCKER] you have shown your character.

You are incorrect in the chronological order of events. Deregulation of the transportation industry, including trucking, was passed in 1980 by the Carter administration with the help of a big push by Sen. Ted Kennedy. The air traffic controller strike, illegal under federal law, didn't happen until August of 1981.

Gee thanks for the correction cavscoutdad.
I'm the first to admit I can recall most of my past Teamsters years, however somethings are a bit foggy.
I got my first union LTL driving job in 1966,so you can see why some of my life is a bit cloudy looking back 50 years.
Whoa 50 years where has the time gone, when I hired on at 21 I thought 50 was old,now that I've flown past that age.
Well now I wonder what age is old age?

I got out of the USMC in 1973 at age 22. First truck driving job about a month later. Back then I couldn't phantom ever being thirty years old. Now I'm 65. What the hell happen??

SuperCourse I see this thread topic has really gone off course big time.
However I say me & mud are not old we are experienced.

Like I used to tell the dockworkers I trained to get their CDL's.
I told them there was one thing left to do after getting their license, which was they needed to get experience.

Only thing I didn't inform them was while your getting experience it will make you a good driver,or drive you to an early grave.

We are all getting old, that's why I started this thread.
30+ years in at age 51 with nothing to look forward to
With a bunch of 30 year retirees telling me I should get nothing while they are pulling what's left of the pension
Let's get back on topic, retirees should get what's left and the rest of us should get nothing.
What if the shoe was on the other foot? Would you still feel the same?
I would guess if you were in my situation you would agree with me.

What if the shoe was on the other foot? Would you still feel the same?

Good question........ Would you feel the same if the shoe was on the other foot?

I would guess if you were in my situation you would agree with me.

And I guess if you were in the situation of the Retirees, you would agree with them........

You can say otherwise.....but your posts of "Poor me" shows an attitude of being "entitled" to the pension just as you would if you were on pension...........and YES..I agree that you are.....but I also agree that those that have already retired are also "entitled" to theirs as well....IT is not a fair situation for anyone one....Retired or not.....

It's funny....and I don't mean to assume that my comment applies to you......but many of the people still working yet and have yet to retire have the idea that it's wrong to "take from someone and give it to someone else"...... by clamoring for retirees who've worked and earned...and retired, to "take" from them and what they've worked for to give it those who have not retired, is essentially the same thing....... It is NOT the fault of the Retirees........ The anger needs to be directed at those responsible......... When the Banks were in a financial shambles.....plenty of money to bail them out......but when it comes to the working men and women of this Nation....and their hard earned pensions.....well, no help for them.....and lets cut their Social Security too while..... The outrage is understandable.....but it needs to be re-directed away from the Retirees and directed at those responsible and to those that have the power to solve the issue.......

I wasn't making light of your comments......I just meant them in the context that we should not be giving in to what they want...and that is pitting Retirees against the still working......as long as they can keep that "fire" going...they don't have to do the right thing........ Both Retirees, and those who are still working have equally valid points.......but the "us against them" attitude doesn't make the situation better..... We are all in the same sinking boat.....and arguing about who is going to bail out the in coming water is not relevant..... the boat will sink just the same.... We need to collectively be screaming for help as if we would be on an actual sinking vessel....... Wall Street was Rescued.....So should be the Working men and women that sacrificed for decades.......... To help along that goal.....we need to stop the infighting and blaming each other.....

Yes I'm one of the oldtimers, however it wasn't easy for me to get enough time to receive a Teamsters pension.
In the 45 years working on LTL docks & P & D,I worked for 15 companies, everyone has gone under.

My first LTL was a company called Eazor Express,I worked for them just 2 years when they merged with another LTL.
When the other company workers had to dove tail,it wasn't a pretty transition, which lead to a wildcat strike.
I needed work so I went to St.Johnsbury, I was at the bottom of the list,so I was always being laid off.

From there I started getting any work I could from the rest of the LTL's in my area.
Sometimes working for 4 companies to get in 5 days of work.
I finally got hooked up with Consolidated freight ways,& we all know what happened with them.

From there I went to Halls Motor Transit,of course started over, then over the years with them I was able to climb up the seniority ladder.
By the time they went bankrupted I was number 2 on the P&D list,I can still remember the phone call when I was notified of the closing.

By then there were not very many union LTL's left,so I took a withdrawal,to freeze the union pension I had earned.
Then I hired on with non-union Overnite Transportation where I was promised a 40 hour week with no layoffs.
You better believe I grabbed that job, although it was not fun starting over again after so many years.

I was with Overnite when UPS bought them out, they sent me to become a certified safety trainer,& I worked another 5 years till I was 63.
By then I had enough years between Overnite,& UPS Freight to get a pension from UPS.
So I retired after 45 yrs with 15 total LTL companies,& 2 million miles working P&D.

There you go I'm an oldtimer,I have been blessed to have earned enough time just over 20 union & the rest non-union to receive 2 pensions.
However after putting up with everything in the 45 yrs,now retired since 2008 I really hate to have to take a 31% cut on one of the payments I'm used to.
Living on a fixed income, yes it is going to hurt.

I'm drawing two pensions also. A small one from the CSPF for my seven years there, and a larger one for twenty-eight years with the Western Teamsters. I'm trying to save every month, what I could lose from my CSPF pension.

That's quite a history.... Thanks for sharing it... I'm sorry about you losing so much of your hard earned pension........

Oh well pilot87,thats all part of life, you win sometimes & sometimes you come up short.
I know my pension cut is on the way,so my wife & I are preparing for the loss.
We have 2 newer vehicles & my small hobby farm that with God's help & good planing I was able to pay off.

So I guess if there is a high note to these cuts,my local Teamsters Fund folks gave enough notice, instead of just springing it on us at the last minute.

It sounds like you and your wife will be ok.....
Some will not be as fortunate...... As I'm sure you're aware of....The apostle Paul described what conditions in general would be like. We are told: “In the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here.” .......... Indeed it appears we are in the end times..... Critical times lie ahead....and hard times to deal with are certainly here........

Hope the best for you and your Family...

Thank you for your kind thoughts pilot87 my friend.
Yes it is a beautiful life as an Apostolic Christian,no matter what happens in my life I am stress free.
I have learned a long time ago to lean on Jesus & he has always taken care of my wife & I.

I know there are hard times on the way, however theres a verse that address that.
Trust in the Lord with all thy heart, lean not on your own understanding,in all thy ways acknowledge him & he will direct your path.
There are also many other Bible verses that cover anything in life we may encounter.
Here is one I am current with,Godliness with contentment is great gain.
The key word is contentment, which actually is priceless.

I see I have thrown this thread topic way off course,so to get it back on course. Here is my opinion.
As far as dissolving the current Teamsters pension,I feel some may benefit by a lump sum pay-out.
However I believe a great majority of current & future Teamsters would suffer a big loss.
