Yellow | EXTRA BOARD FIRST IN FIRST OUT!! WHY/WHY NOT??

Took words out of my fingertips for reply to mud but was thinking some guys just don't care for others. We don't even run a hog board at holland and if I hear a JR man has had a :shit:ty week and I'm covering a bid I will burn a day on Friday so they won't leave him at home. Amen driver AMEN.
mud would not sign up to work on his premium day, because the casuals and laid off would complain. Sure enough, I would be getting calls to please come in, no one is answering their phones. Or mud can you stay and work two hours overtime, the casuals and laid off people all have to be at their part time job or have a class in the morning. Sure enough, I get off two hours later and there they are drinking beer in the parking lot.
 
I have seen junior men bitch about working on weekends & not answering their phones. The excuse I have heard is they want to spend time with their families & go to the lake etc. Thinking of families is very commendable but senior men have made sacrifices to get to where they are too. Freight moves 24/7 & moving freight is what keeps us in business.

That's why I came to the conclusion back before I retired that my family comes first. When I was a casual I was available 24/7 because I needed to pay my families bills.
 
Isn't it funny how hypocritical union members can be. The same people that vote Democrat and support spreading the wealth, also support hog boards.
 
I personally like hog boards. Why should a senior driver get starved out with the rest of the new guys. If it's slow they need to lay off whether it's a hog board or a wheel. If you were working on the city side and there wasn't enough to do you would sit home. You wouldn't go ahead of a senior guy in the city. Who said union people want to spread the wealth to everyone? We all came to work to make a living, not to make sure everyone they hire gets the same hours as you weather he or she just started or has been there busting his or her hump for 30 years. We just don't want to get ***** by our employeers. We just want a good/fare days pay without getting the shaft by our employeers, not communism. You new people want seniority when you just start. YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR SENIORITY! All union people are not democrats so get off your judgemental high horse.

I agree, this goes on everywhere, seniority rules (or it should) when it comes to work or bidding, everyone has gone thru this just starting out at any carrier whether it's union or non-union.
Just because the IBT has endorsed the Democrats doesn't mean all the members vote that way. Remember they donate to both party's just to cover their bases just like all big business does.
 
Been here going on 3months, I'm not doing as bad as most people told me I'd do. I'm averaging about $900 a week net, and brung home as much as $1600 and as little as $300 due to holiday slow down, in which I sat for a week but got paid for the holiday and one run. NOW.....sitting for a week and checking the board everyday and hearing the same drivers being called not once but 3 and 4 times while I'm sitting at house scratching my @$$. I do understand how seniority works and respect it when it comes to bidding......but I believe extra board should be first in first out to retain new drivers and attract new drivers because the word on the streets is "It'll Take You 20years to make money at a Union job" making private fleets like Walmart and non union ltl carriers like Old Dominion with first in first out more attractive.

I guess this is where companies differ, at OD very few drivers with seniority stay on the extraboard. As soon as one is able to get a schedule, generally the driver takes the schedule and is on a schedule from there on.
