ABF | Where did the freight go!!!!!

Where did the freight go? In Indy it went to Mexico. The Rexnord plant in Indianapolis, a machine tool & die maker announced it was moving to Mexico putting 350 people out of work by April 2017. Union Steel Workers have had labor peace for a long time @ this plant.

Carrier a division of United Technologies announced 2 months ago it was moving to Mexico. Putting 1500 United Steel workers on the street.

Both companies, especially Rexnord said they went south for cheaper labor. That is where & why you have less freight. Von.
This is sad for workers & all of America. Tell me again how NAFTA will create jobs for Americans. There should be a campaign to recall every politician still in office that voted for NAFTA.

If Trump only knew how to conduct himself publicly we might have had a chance at getting that fixed but I'm afraid that he has blown it.

Good luck throwing the bums out. They are going to change the system when they are running, then they fall into the swamp and only see what is good for them. maybe we can outsorce them for cheaper labor from cambodia !! Funny how obama care was supposed to be for "everyone", but once if passed, they all squacked and then only us simpletons have to have it. oh yeah, and by the way ,your rates are gonna double in 2017. right after obama leaves office......ooops. sucks to be you

I said from the start of Obamacare that any health plan congress passes should be their plan also.

everyone blames Obama.....WRONG!!! The right wingers in DC blocked normal people from getting the insurance ,like they have....The right wingers in DC wanted the insurance plan to fail...All they are worried about is how many times they get elected into office....the RIght Wingers will not give you any insurance at an affordable price!!!! they will give you temp JOBS with no benefits and break union jobs with good wages.

Good points, but I think it's simpler than that. This is the only nation where your healthcare is tied to your employer...under age 65 anyway.......

So basically your employer is holding your families' healthcare for hostage.......You don't dare organize, or ask for higher wages.......or even quit if you don't like the conditions, because you can't afford the gap in insurance while starting a new job.

Healthcare insurers have conspired to place the price way out of the range of average salaries,.........so you have to stay employed to maintain it.

Easiest way to lower wages is to keep a large captive labor pool. Cheap health insurance ,.....or even single payer/government insurance......allows working people the choice to remain employed,........or to organize, maybe,.......without the threat of losing their healthcare.........

Even the so-called "co-pay" that many people pay weekly back to their employer......just to maintain their healthcare is a trick employers use to adjust their Labor costs. Ever notice when an employer gives a pay raise........ sonofagun! The cost of "healthcare" has just risen , too..........and the cost you "pay" .......Back to your EMPLOYER........is just about equal to your "pay raise".........did your "wages" go up?

Many people haven't figured out that one yet....If you're in a group health plan , there's no reason to pay a weekly/monthly surcharge BACK to your employer ..........just to "maintain " your healthcare plan. That money doesn't go to your healthcare.........your EMPLOYER uses that to adjust his labor costs.........you didn't pay that to your healthcare provider.......you paid it to your employer,.......or rather, they take it out of your check weekly........

Employers and insurers want Obama to fail.........they don't want to see a labor pool shrink, or become more fluid,......or....Heaven Forbid!.........decide to organize, without the threat of losing their healthcare......

I think Obama care was set up to fail in the first place. They want a single government payment (income tax) and the government will supply medical just like Canada. It's a sneaky way of taxing your medical insurance, in turn everyone pays more except your employer. It's genius on the goverments part.

In other words it's a tax break, not paying health care, for your employers. Democrats and Republicans are all working for the same corporations. They are all crooked

Originally, that's what the Affordable Care Act was supposed to be. A single-payer system pretty much like an expansion of Medicare, but with a means test and an "opt-out" provision for people who wanted better care and were willing to pay out-of-pocket..

But the our "friends" in the insurance industry became horrified over losing a captive market through employer-based healthcare, and sent their lobbyists like a swarm of flying monkeys to pester and conjole the lawmakers they "donated" to.......or bought outright,........and had them start throwing the handgrenades into the bill, and so now we have a crippled Affordable Care Act, with no cap on how much insurance companies can charge...,...which, of course,.makes it not very Affordable after all.....

Do you see all those letters in the mail from Geico, Allstate, Nationwide, and Farmers insurance,.....telling you they will lower your automobile policy...if you just switch?

Ever wonder why healthcare insurance isn't competitive the same way?

Insurance companies can't stand to lose their captive markets.....Many insurance companies "kick-back" to an employer for writing policies with large numbers...... Employers buy "Labor peace" by dangling the loss of your healthcare in case you decide to get......"uppity"........ Win-win for them all the way around......

The Republicans in Congress are up to,......what?....47 votes to "de-fund Obamacare".........…
Anyone notice they DO NOT have an alternate plan? It will just go back the way it was.......

The insurance companies and employers want that.

I'd agree with the fact that weather has played a role in frejght flow always, but I personally feel that logistic carriers are playing a major role at this time. It seems to me that as a driver, whenever a customer tells one of my fellow city drivers they're going to ship with us the next day and the driver gives dispatch the heads up,we find the shipment was picked by (our logistic partners)! Thats a roadman that could have gotten a days pay.The real sad part is the tractors and trailers are all marked with different names that don't have resemblance to any carriers we advertise. It makes you hesitate giving dispatch the heads up.

I want that. It was much cheaper with better coverage

I think the freight you guys are used to seeing cross your dock is over @ Fed-Ex right now being loaded on to an outbound trailer. Just a guess, but, after missing the pick ups @ one of your best customer 3 days in a row, the question now is, YRC who? Keep in mind ABF is not innocent either when it comes to not picking up freight 2 or 3 days in a row. When you make you last delivery @ 2:30 pm & your 1st pick up is 30 miles away & they close @ 3pm ya gonna lose customers. Just the nature of the beast. von.

The way it was before ACT, insurance premiums were going up at a faster rate than wages and inflation while they were denying coverage left and right.
Our healthcare system needs a major overhaul.
As long as overhaul means gov stays out of my wallet and my business then I agree

Healthcare and its costs are a very sensitive subject. Everyone wants the best but they all want it cheap or for free, you'll have to take your pick. For starters Medevac rides cost big $$$ and they don't even replace ambulances. The ambulance system remains in place for the times when the choppers can't fly, at least in my area, I don't know how it works in Sedona, AZ where it doesn't rain for years at a time. On top of it they put anyone and everyone in a chopper anymore and fly them to a far away hospital rather than the one right down the street. i e kid falls off bike and breaks arm, homeless man gets beat up and breaks arm and they each get a chopper ride. At $20,000+ per ride this accounts for one hell of a cost to our healthcare system. Most of the time an ambulance ride to the local hospital would even be faster than that 30 mile chopper ride 'til they got the bird on site, loaded up and flying but it is business and there is nobody watch-dogging it. I'll go limited tort and take my chances in an old Cadillac wagon with a cherry on top for a lower price. Then there's the end of the line express, you know, when they extend your life by another year for $200,000 or more whilst you know you are only staving off the inevitable. And a miserable year it often is at that. Let's look at just that $200,000 and spread it out over a 30 year career (since it is associated with our jobs). That comes to some $555.00/month just to cover that last 12 months of misery and not including what we need during the 70 years or so that we are living. There is no fast and/or easy answer or replacement for our healthcare.

What was that formula?.......90% of your lifetime "healthcare" dollars are spent in the last 10 days of your life..

Or, at least, it used to be that way...it looks like now they want to spread that total out a little and maybe "maximize" their profits.....

Single-payer systems seem to work in every other civilized nation in the world........I don't see any healthcare protests in Germany or France,.........and during the London Olympics a few years back , when the performers at the opening ceremony formed the letters: "NHS" as a tribute to Britain's National Health System,.....the entire crowd of over 100,000 people at Wembley Stadium stood up and cheered...........that didn't look like dissatisfied people to me.....

Surely they wouldn't lie to us about how well single-payer works in other countries?

I am all for a single payer healthcare system and they should look at how all the other countries run theirs and figure out was works best. But I also know that whatever we get we have to pay for one way or another and it is not going to be cheap.

I wouldn't want a single pay healthcare system here. If the government touches it, it's corrupt! Prove me wrong. Most of those countries pay 50% or more in taxes also.
