ABF | YRC ABF

The concessions at YRC weren't good for anyone but the corporate piggies.......and they surely encouraged ABF upper mgmt. to follow suit.....

But the main culprit in both cases was the IBT so-called leadership, and their lackadaisical failure to force both companies to accept good contracts...,.....We are, after all,.......in the middle of the King-Hell Mother of all Driver Shortages........

So Johnson and Sweeton paid the price........along with a few others......We can only wonder which other two toadies Mr. Hoffa will appoint to the Freight negotiating panel.......

Hoffa and crew should have been voted out en masse.........

If I hear in the future, that the Canadian contracts are all calling for pay and benefits cuts,...........I will search real hard in my heart to feel at least a momentary modicum of pity for those deluded fools....

There is no reason why Hoffa wont appoint Sweeton, Johnson or any other person he wants to negotiate ABF contract. Not being a VP doesn't disqualify you from working for Hoffa. Also The Teamster United people being voted in doesn't mean they will be involved in anything as far as negotiating commitees, organizing, etc. there are many created positions in the Hoffa admn.

But don't you really mean that Judy, and Welch got together for dinner somewhere and Judy said she could make the lawsuit against yrc go away if James would publicly let out thoughts of yrc buying abf? That way both companies save money....just enough info to scare the abf employees into voting yes?
They would have been nowhere near as motivated if yous over there hadn't already given the farm away...after all, it was voted on, right?

Yep. Voted on by both companies. Yrc telling us they would close, and you guys being told yrc might buy ABF. I would say if the two scenarios were flipped, with yrc being bought, and abf threatening to close, the vote would have come out about the same. With many people over 55 at both companies, it really made many think. Do I want to risk looking for another job at this age?

Yall never prove it, but you might be closer to the truth than you think. What you described happens all the time in business. I say the meeting was an over nighter @ the ABF Hunting Lodge deep in the woods of the Ozarks. Just Imagine Judy & James. I hope this thought of mine about James & Judy doesn't get me banned, I am having to much fun, especially when the Vicodin kicks in. von.

You are correct. Will never prove it. Just too many coincidence's happened around that time with the lawsuit not getting appealed to higher courts and so on....

If you feel that destroying equipment is acceptable, then you ARE NO TEAMSTER AND CERTAINLY NO BROTHER OF MINE! :duh::popcorn:
YRC Employees voting not to pay into ALL of our pension funds is being brotherly? By law YRC should have had to buy out of all of its pension liabilities! YRC got a political favor that helps screw the rest of the people in all these funds. That's being a brother to all the other members in these funds? Give me a break! I left YRC because of these concessions! Then to use the money that should have been into your pension funds they use it to threaten ABF and our contract negotiations? Where should we line up to thank you guys?

Basically, this. I know we all like to be good boys and girls to our corporate masters because we're scared little puppies, but that was one of the biggest slaps in the face IMAGINABLE. And illegal. And immoral. When management sends a message like that...that your family is worth THAT little to them? You don't want to send a message BACK?

Your departure was thanks enough! And best of luck! FYI, any money that would have been available to purchase ABF would have been borrowed. And while your smug assertion that the crisis in pension funding is ALL YRCW's fault, maybe you should do a little research. "YRC got a political favor that helps screw the rest of the people in all these funds." The closure of Hostess has NOTHING to do with it! The cause is too many pensioners and not enough working, making contributions. The ratio of 5:1 is the PRIMARY cause. :duh:

Maybe you can explain why Western States is in good condition for us then. :duh:
You should do some research yourself. CSPF absorbed several funds in the 70s and 80s. Of which the contributors had ceased operations.
That is why there are so many participants in the plan.

The closure of Hostess was one big swipe at the viability of all funds........YRC's evasion of pension payments were another....

Between those two,...and a number of little "swipes", there are a number of funds....mine included (W. Penna.) ........that are now in deep trouble.....

The point is,......if our so called "leadership" at the IBT were a little more...... proactive.......in what really matters to all of us,.....and had at least provided information as to the long-term results of voting to step out of the pension funds,.......many guys might've re-thought their vote......

But all the IBT was worried about was dues money.......under any conditions..
The morality of screwing guys who had worked 30-40 years for a pension.......got "trumped" by the money influx of dues.

Everyone is responsible for their own choices,....... however, the people we elected,.......and paid.......to protect our jobs, benefits and pensions...... didn't have the "cojones" to tell the truth to the membership.......... consequently many members made their choice out of fear and ignorance......

Both of those things should be at the top of ANY elected official's list to dispel.......That is, after all,...their primary job.

Guidance , information, and leadership.... ..for the good of the MEMBERS....not the IBT's coffers........
.
Anyone who had the..........(marginal) "pleasure"........of watching the antics of the Hoffa delegates at the convention.........the threats, screams, tantrums, and general heavy-handed and anger at rank-and-file members who had dared to speak up........... should've realized all the Hoffa team was concerned with was lining their own nest, and covering their collective butts....... The rank-and-file are no longer in the equation.....

By the way, since the collapse of Hostess, and their subsequent sale of the "brand".......and their corporate evasion of all responsibility to their former employees..........I refuse to allow a Twinkie or a Ho-Ho within 10 foot of me.......

YRC not paying into the pension funds across the country cost everyone in the pension around 350 million a year. YRC still couldn't pay it now and has to pay less than non union companies do. Quit fooling yourself!

While all of that may be true, it's a scumbag that willfully destroys somebody else property, you don't like the deal , bail. Destroying equipment isn't going to do a thing other than make it bad on another driver that has to put up with it.

Laying around accepting your fate is all we have been doing. The Teamsters need to be more than just dues collectors. I agree destruction of property isn't a good thing but at some point your going to have to stick up for yourselves or get run over.
