You have taken the time to file this story @ TB. Have you taken the time to pick up the Pad in the Union folder or file cabinet & file on what you just described? If you have, the rank & file thank you. If you haven't ya better get busy with the pen & paper, much more effective. Besides, people will notice you care more about action than lip service. von.

I heard that was going on there last Sunday as well. Not me, my set was ready. Well, my single pup for a 621 via was ready I should say. lol The ready lines were nearly empty @ 326. I heard it was because a bunch of guys called in sick. Oddly enough, the ready lines at 621 were full.?

OK question: say you're a road driver asked to do yard dog work or dock work. You say no and file on it. What happens then? Who gets paid? You didn't do the work so you shouldn't get it, and they have to have the yard dog/dockworker do the work they asked you to do because you said no. What happens? Just curious because I haven't been faced with this situation.

Be careful on refusing work. Tell them you are sick & going home. If they object then demand they drive you to the clinic for you feel doing so yourself might not be safe. If they ask you what is wrong tell them it is a private matter between you & your doctor. Please tell me you are using your Olympus Digital Recorder or using the app in your cell smart phone. When it comes to management where you are employed you HAVE TO practice the BOY SCOUT MOTTO. 'Be Prepared'. CYA. Fight fire with fire. Be smarter than your boss so you can win you arguments. Get a witness if possible. Answer their questions with, I don't know, maybe, have no idea, never saw it, I will answer as soon as my steward arrives. Stall; lead them down the wrong path. When you demand a steward, it gives you time to think about the question & how to respond. Even if the steward can't make it, you have given yourself time to recover from the question. Stall, answer in a way that tells them nothing or has no bearing on the subject. If they object tell them you are doing the best you can & you don't think you can improve on your response. In other words, sell them a load of crap. von.

Yes, because refusing work is such a smart thing to do when we're complaining about PTS.

We know how the process works. I was just trying to find out if it is going on at other terminals or just Ours.

No I'm not a road driver. To clarify they have asked city drivers to volunteer to work dock on slow p&d days thus creating new dock start times. Seems to Me they are trying to Blur the lines so that they can get away with some things that are protected against in Our maintenance of standards. I was wondering If it is happening at other terminals.

It's going on at Holland in Spartanburg or half of you guys 682. Management is allowing foreign and domicile drivers to put trailers to dock when city is on the clock. Some do it just for the .25hr and they tell the new hires to do it. Sad part about it that the city guys won't file on it. Then they have new hires hook their own trucks at night, but I've been working with them on filing on it and they've won every time,

Keep up the fight brother . We can't let them take any more.

Can't never refuse the work, just do it and file on it like von said. Let a city man know as well so they can put a claim on it.

Not trying to throw gas on the fire here, but if you really look at it, the work rules covering these types of things were fine in an industry dominated by union carriers. Now, if you honestly look at it, some of these rules do nothing but raise the costs of moving freight, and cause service delays. Something's we do,the non union competition loves....

That's part of being in a Union Shop, Union rules! Rules the Company agreed too. So they have no reason to bitch now do they?

If the Company orders you to to change classification, (Road to Yard, Yard to Dock etc) Do not refuse. Do it, BE SAFE! And file for 8 hours pay for changing your classification.

Have you noticed where so many of the "union shop" companies of the past are today? Times change and smart people have to adapt. When our competition is primarily non-union we might just have to take a new look at some of the old rules. What good are the old rules when we put ourselves out of business. Take a look at the railroads. Their old rules almost strangled them out of business. The workers got smarter, adapted, and they're thriving today.

The issue I'm responding to is when hostlers regularly book off delaying the road drivers and freight flow. We can't serve the customer if people don't show up to do the work.
I read your quote wrong my apologies. The work should still be handled by local operations only.
