FedEx Freight | Union centers NOT getting new vacation pay rate.

The 4 Union centers will not be getting the new city driver vacation pay rate. Also no new trucks at EPH or the SBR yard since voting in the union 2 years ago... Thanks for nothing Teamsters

Seems the union should of made it clear that the centers voting in the union would have a tough time getting the same perks as the ones that didn't and vice versa. IMO

Seems to me, this is where the MEMBERS need to hold the Teamsters accountable. The case could be made that to deny 4 locations the vacation enhancement is a form of retribution/punishment. The case could be made. The fact that if they are not making the case (as far as we know), should be addressed. Now, if they challenged it in court and failed, that would be a different matter.

Equipment allocation? Far too subjective to be taken seriously by any court, IMHO.

Should all union talk not be moved to the closed thread ?
I don't (yet) see anyone advocating, for or against. This discussion seems to be addressing facts as they evolve.

It has been noted that people are paying close attention to what the Company does, or doesn't do. The same goes for paying attention to what the IBT does, or doesn't do.

Who is currently winning in the court of public opinion seems self evident.

blame the company for dragging the contract neg. out

It's not the company's fault. You need something to negotiate with to get something you want. Looks like the teamsters have nothing to negotiate with. I don't think the company is just going to give things up for nothing. They were probably lucky to get the raise, I think the only reason they got it, is because the company didn't want to **** off the drivers at those centers.

please don't get mad. but a lot of people were fooled by the union. i used to be in a union years ago you never get something with out giving something. with fedex not even recognizing the shops that went union. you have nothing and the union cant help you at all. there is now bargaining table to start with. I am sorry for all that voted union a lot of people got screwed and there is not a thing you can do about it.

I wouldn't blame no new equipment on the union. We have 12 city tractors that are 13 years old, some with frame repairs due to rust holes through the frame that were on the trade list to be replaced by new equipment this fiscal year. They have been removed from the list and we are keeping them in service for at least another year. I'm sure they are doing this everywhere to save money. We are not a union center.

Really??? It was the company who suggested meeting twice a month to negotiate during the slow/winter months instead of the customary once a month, resulting in a year and a half's worth of negotiating in one year's time. I wouldn't necessarily call that "dragging their feet"!!

Certainly that case could be made (by those who don't understand how negotiations work) but the case could also be made that the MEMBERS are trying to negotiate a better deal (which is the point of negotiations). The vacation wage enhancement is something that MUST be negotiated since it's an economic enhancement that wasn't in place BEFORE negotiations started, unlike the yearly wage increase/bonuses...which is what we've said from the beginning.

Agree on equipment allocations, far to subjective....plus, some like the older equipment!! :1036316054:
Real punishment would be placing new trucks at the 4 centers that voted yes!! :hilarious:

Agreed...and for educational purposes, the only thing that's been tentatively agreed upon should a contract be ratified is clean bathrooms (with hot water), clean drinking fountains (with cold water) and defibrillators strategically placed throughout the center.
Great job guys!! :1036316054:

Don't see anything to get mad about. It is a process. I seem to remember the Union being "fooled" into thinking there would be more. More than 4 against the machine. Strength is measured by numbers, and unity in those numbers. Bottom line, you do what you can. It never was a case of the end of the world for either side. A little bit of perspective might be in order.

Also, no reason to feel sorry for anyone. There was a good reason those who went first were praised for bravery and resolve. The resolve part of the equation will come from pushing the IBT to do everything possible in negotiating a better package.

Today, at the 4 represented locations, the burden is squarely on the shoulders of the IBT. If they fail to guide the members and represent properly, there are major consequences. More than a few watching how they handle this. Meanwhile the drivers at those locations are quite capable of speaking their mind, if and when it becomes necessary. They have options, contrary to popular opinion.

Equipment as potential punishment? Agree:1036316054:

Negotiation tactics? Not so much.:nono h4h: I'm guessing that I'm the one who doesn't understand how negotiations work? If so, I'm fine with that opinion. I do know that not all movement happens at the table. How many times did the Company challenge the dockworker vs driver topic?

Without getting further wrapped up in this... I will say that letting the above enhancement exclusion stand, unchallenged, sets the stage for more of the same or similar, IMHO. There are a few things that don't make sense, based on the little that we know.

That's about as far as I'm willing to go on the topic right now. Feel free to explain it all to me.

Sorry for the misconception, my statement wasn't directed toward you personally, more of a "general" statement. I think everyone knows you're smart enough to understand the process, however, I feel sometimes your judgement is clouded by your acquaintances.

An explanation is simple...4 centers voted to be represented by the IBT so it's their responsibility to represent us at the table...and beyond, provided things go that far. We are entitled to, by law, everything that was offered to us BEFORE negotiations started...yearly raises/bonuses (if applicable), healthcare, etc. (although the IBT "could" deny those items as they negotiate for better if they so choose), remember, even you claimed we couldn't go backwards. The vacation wage enhancement for city drivers is something NEW that came about AFTER negotiations started, therefor, it must be negotiated at the 4 yes centers whereas everyone else gets the enhancement...remember, we voted for representation, others didn't.

First off, how would the union be fooled? I seem to remember certain guys begging local 509 to file a petition and them refusing. They had the numbers to do it with. The IBT left it up to the individual locals to handle the activity. I seem to remember the International almost refusing to get involved at all in any way shape or form.

The IBT dropped the ball in not handling this when it became clear they had an opportunity to turn this into a full fleged campaign. Who knows how many locals sat on their hands refusing to file or to help out drivers who petitioned their locals for help on how to organize. There is no one to blame but the International.

Second, you drivers watching this unfold wishing for someone else to do something for you, and "hoping for the best" while "reserving the right" to petition, are leaving your "friends" out on an island alone. Either you get with the program and file, or this all dies a slow painful death.

I suspect most take the cowards way. No one is going to file, and you have no support whatsoever. What's done is done and the four are alone until it plays out.

I fully understand how it is being explained. Conventional wisdom is often incorrect. Often we must take things to the extreme to show the flaw in the thinking. Compensation increases take many forms. Next year, there might be zero mileage/hourly increase, but instead something else. Something new or calculated differently. Under your analogy, the response from the IBT would be, oh well, we must negotiate that. So, a little smoke and mirrors can deny them any increase at all?

I would have expected there to be a challenge, even if merely symbolic, to show good faith. Why negotiate something you may have secured through the court? The answer might explain quite a lot.
