The law is that everyone must be using them by the end of 2017. If you are using them now, they must be correct. It's the same as cheating on a paper log and they are being audited by the DOT. It's a lot easier to audit a data base than it is paper records.Oh I get that but when they are writing people up and suspending them and up to termination and it isn't the "law" until the end of 2017...come on!
If you get a violation, how long do you have to wait to get a clean slate? Is it 6 months or a year?
Heck, I forgot and moved 1/2 way around the terminal, hooked to a trailer and then remembered that I did not do my pre-trip. Entered it in and never got wrote up.If we move the truck and it doesn't kick to driving we get written up. I was told even 5 ft and it's a write up.
Supposedly when they put the cameras in, they're gonna tighten up the peoplenet "recording in progress" alert and the camera will record what you are doing. It will go straight to safety. Then you'll get a phone call. Another driver with a camera in his truck already confirmed this to me. Dunno if it was a bs story or not.
I have a feeling, the safety Hombre is fixing to be a busy man in the upcoming months
They should put cameras on the fork trucks , that'd be a great video to watch.
Rumor has it that Saia plans in putting them on the forklifts.
Bottom Line is that you have been trained on how to log in and out. Just do it right after you punch in and before you move the truck. Get into a routine and stay with it. Estes has no problem with writing you up if you screw up your routine.hey so does anyone else at any other terminal have had an all of a sudden jump in green writes up due to pre and post trip violations? My terminal I work out of has. I was told that 1st you get a white write up, 2nd is green, 3rd is 3 day suspension, 4th is 5 day suspension and 6 is termination. I am already on my 2nd write up. The next one will be 3 day suspension. Kinda harsh loosing 3 days pay all because I may hit the wrong button on accident. All this seems excessive when the fact is that d.o.t doesn't require any type of e-logs till the end of this 2017 year.
The peoplenet now starts recording if you follow too closely for over 30 seconds or so. OBC Headway Event I think is what it says. When the cameras come it'll all be tied together.
Trying to keep the Fed off their ass,I assume. Our industry and country are regulated to death and :::: rolls downhill.
We have a dock worker that jumps in a truck several times a week to peddle freight and make pick ups , all without logging in.Interestingly enough people are getting away with moving their trucks around with out being logged. Wait till they start paying attention to that.
