Got my CDL in August 2015 did truck load for four months, but I couldn't stomach bringing home $400 paychecks anymore or the ignorant truckload dispatchers... especially for being gone 5 days a week... so I got a local job with a beer distributor & been here for the last 14 months.

Obviously I'm not going to sling kegs around the rest of my life... lol. Although it is a good workout I don't have long-term plans here. I'm applying for different LTL jobs. And coming back to Averitt is definitely at the top of my list... along with possibly Estes or Southeastern. But I'd prefer to come back.

INPUT WANTED... from LTL guys. How do you like LTL? What are the shifts like? And what is the pay like? And do you work weekends?

For what its worth... I would be out of Raleigh, NC Service Center. I have my endorsements so that is not a concern.

As for me Averitt has been good in most areas, however the shuttle pay needs to be addressed. I would recommend that you look at other LTL carriers unless you are cool with being app 10 cents behind most LTL companies.

Yeah I know Estes pays overtime. my friend just went there and he's making 22 an hour with 10 2 15 hours of overtime every week.

Do you have any idea what averitt LTL shifts are like?

Unless your friend just started, 22 is not correct. Shifts vary locations

Estes average local p&d is $23/hour. He said they will Max him out at 25 per hour at about a year-and-a-half. That's pretty good.

Is $400.00 dollars a week the average for an Averitt driver? Surely not, right?

Im sure its not the average. ha

But there truckload department is a joke. Ignorant dispatch... no miles. Short 200 mile runs here and there. I did it for 4 months & I brought home $500 TWO TIMES. NO bullshit.

Seems to be a common problem... read reviews about truckload. The company itself very good... equipment, service centers, benefits, vacation time, etc: I dont know how anyone supports a family as a truckload driver for Averitt though.

Yeah, I believe the LTL side of Averitt is a lot better. Most of the LTL guys I talk to at Averitt are pretty happy.

I work at Estes. P&D here (at my barn) tops out at $25.40 with no overtime until 55 hours. Other terminals may be different.

Our linehaul (comparable to your shuttle) tops out at .6325 for scheduled runs and .6425 for wild drivers (out all week)

Keep in mind each terminal within a company is operated by a terminal mgr that may have his own set of rules or operational needs. What applies at one terminal may be totally different at another. We will all have the same pay rate and wear red but that's where it may end, for instance, at a bigger terminal you only drive if you are city/shuttle, never work the dock but at a smaller one the operational needs may have you on the dock. In the grand scheme of things a dollar or even 2 dollars means little when you look at the hours you have to work, equipment you have to operate etc. Some companies are known to pay well but work you 12-14 hours a day every day, yea it's great pay but who wants to do that week after week? A company may pay more per hour/mile but their insurance cost is more expensive eating up the additional pay. It's going to be tough to make a choice until you get your feet wet and decide what's important to you and your family.

AE city driver-$23.10 x 40 hrs =$924.00
Estes city driver-$25.40 x 40 hrs =$1016.00
I would have to say that "a dollar or even two"
means a whole lot.

Your numbers are a little off but I'm not one to argue with what makes a guy comfortable, here's the numbers on my last pay statement of 2016, but I'm not complaining as a city driver.

Dang that is a 59.50 hour week on average, our city drivers can touch that !

That's working extra that's for sure, an option many companies don't allow, or it goes to the guys with seniority. Many that pay overtime cut their guys off or put them running linehaul to avoid paying OT. One thing that's important to note, I wasn't forced to work those hours, it was an option, I like having the option to work or take it easy.
