You don't need to keep a paper log, but you should pull your total on duty hours from the ELD each day to keep your own recap to override the automatic 34hr reset that is programmed in. Otherwise you WILL find yourself in conflict with dispatch at some point when they try to force you out with insufficient hours based on your elog hours recap. Yes, it will happen. They will look up your hours on the computer while you are in bed and call with a dispatch that you can't do based on your true available hours. Some will love it, others not so much. The only way around this that I see will be to turn in a paper recap of hours at the end of each trip just like you do now. That will require you to pull your hours from the ELD each day and fill out a paper recap.The stewards will have to watch that everyone is playing by the same rules. The company and the DOT won't care.
