ABF | New Freight Director.

I've know Mr. Soehl and working side by side with him for the past 3 years. He is a bulldog, tells it how it is. Sometimes people don't like to hear the truth. Before getting negative with out having to know him I think I would give the man a chance before inserting foot in mouth. Just my opionion.

Brother, I have a history with Mr. Soehl that goes back about 15 years , mainly through grievance panels and such. I can't say that I've worked as closely with him as you say you do,.........so maybe you have a better perspective on his personality.

All I can tell you is that in Western Penna. his reputation isn't very good........ and that's a general consensus, not just my opinion.......

In fact, I know he's " punctuation-impaired" when it comes to things like "periods" and their important placement in the contract language...........

Maybe, as a Brother, ........ we should give him the benefit of the doubt about his autonomy and character,.......... now that he's responsibile for all of freight. Maybe he will grow into the challenge and be someone we can be proud of.........

It's going to be tough......... he's dug a deep hole with many people......

Work at a non-union carrier and you may realize some of you take for granted the benefits of being in a union....
I am not anti union and I understand and appreciate what unions do and have done for workers. I am anti Hoffa and he is the teamsters union today. I base my opinions on facts and experiences. Hoffa has decimated what once was a great union, it's not my fault that he did that and it's not my fault that I recognize it. I know, full well that Hoffa likes to blame the messenger when he's the one who wrote the story. I am not alone, Hoffa has lost his support in America as demonstrated by the recent ballot count.

So what your saying then is because your against Hoffa anyone who Hoffa puts into a position is no good either. So it's OK to knock an individual on social media before giving that individual a chance because you don't like his leader.

Not what I'm saying at all, maybe you should read what others are saying right here and It doesn't go without notice that you are trying to put words in my mouth. So...I'll ask you a question and all I want is an honest, straightforward answer (I don't expect one)...I derive from your claim that Ernie was put into the position of Eastern Region Freight Director due to his record and abilities. Conversely, I'll derive that his predecessor was removed for exhibiting the opposite. Now...I'll give you an edge, I know that he did not resign his position. So, why was the first guy removed and Ernie installed?

I have read the others and there are only 2 or 3 that are making comments. All I'm saying is don't convict before giving someone that chance. Remember during negotiations and grievances there are others in there as well, like DC attorneys. I am not in your shoes nor do I pretend to be. I am with Fedex and sitting at the table seeing what goes on and how it works. It's not as easy as some may think. You may NeEd to give some to get some etc. It's a lot harder trying to get that first one than to be in an established one already. But how much more with the way these corporations have gotten do you expect unions to get. It can only go for so long before things start to break. Most of the ones that bash the union or had multiple grievances are usually the ones. Again there are rules in a contract that members must follow. But try working for someone that don't have that and they make up the rules as they go along. We can go back and forth all day, I have been in a union before and now I'm not. I've never had to use them to defend me. But the union is only as strong as its members. So when guys don't show up for general meetings or the high number who didn't even mail in a vote on this past election, we'll they have nothing to say then.

So...I'll ask you a question and all I want is an honest, straightforward answer (I don't expect one)...
You did not disappoint.
But the union is only as strong as its members.
That's the typical cop out that comes from above. A union, like a chain, is only as strong as its weakest link and right now the entire union is weak, from most locals to the top.

I have to agree with trucking62 on the issue of the new freight director. I like trucking62's optimistic outlook on the future of freight Teamsters. Apparently he worked with Ernie to organize S. Brunswick FedEx into Local 701 which was a major accomplishment. You have to give them credit for that. My opinion is that we shouldn't talk down the union. There are other FedEx workers watching and waiting to see if the Teamsters will do right by those who took that big step and voted yes. I say give Soehl a chance he can't do any worse than Johnson. Just my opinion as a retired 41 year freight Teamster.

Brother Crystal, I'll have to give you that. If he organized FedEx in N.Brunswick,........ That's a plus in his favor.......

You and I have had a few conversations about the Eastern Regional Panel,.........And the various ........."interpretations"......... of the contract language. I'm a soon-to-be retiree with 41 years also.......( Minus the 10 or so on withdrawal as an O/O...)........ and a very staunch supporter of Unionism....It is, after all , a First Amendment right to be able to belong in a Union,.......And the only reason corporations haven't lobbied to make it against the law..........

But, in my opinion,.......Too many big decisions were based on personal intentions......... to the rank-and-file's loss.
We've all seen the breakup of the NMFA into small balkanized bits......... and that certainly won't do any of us..... newly organized FedEx guys included,........ any good.

We've all seen the lies that the corporate people were allowed to get away with last contract talks,.......... and I think many of us are fearful it will happen again. That would be just about the final nail in the coffin of organized trucking.

All right.........Let's see what Mr.Soehl will do.....I'm glad he's involved with organizing .......... but what about the rest of us red-headed stepchildren that are already organized........... and are having our wages, vacations, and pensions ripped from us?

The two former incompetents allowed this to happen.........Will those policies continue,......Or will there be an immediate attempt at rectifying wrongs?

First 100 days?

Trucking62, I can understand how you could be optimistic and hopeful and I do wish you the best of luck. I just can't share your feel good feelings about this union. I don't expect you to share my sentiments and I would like to hear how you make out. I know that feelings are mixed at UPS Freight and, personally, I think that their contract has a lot of holes and bad language in it. New hires really got the short end of that deal (but who cares about them anyway, right?).

Why you disagree with that really. As far as your question , I have no idea who was there before him nor do I care.like I said the local members love him and he runs a great local. You.obviously have an agenc

I respect your opionion. Do I feel there have been mistakes made along the way, absolutely. That would be a topic at another time. I'm just asking to give the man a chance before you crucify.

You don't care what happened in the past, I do. What, exactly, do you mean that I have an agenda? That's another cop out that they toss out up top when they don't have a legitimate response.

We're telling you that Ernie has a track record, we have seen it, you have not. He has failed us at a lower level and you want to give him a chance at a higher level. So...when your health care provides fails at checking you in are you going to move him into the primary care position?

Don't worry, Ernie loves your support, he's got his arm around you and he's telling you how great you are. Then you'll get a contract that you will think is great because you never had one before but it will be less than what we have and ours will be lowered to meet yours. We've seen it before and we do not look forward to seeing it again. This is not what I hope for, it is what I predict based on past experience.

Oh-Oh! ........... You're playing that right after this Presidential election?

Just kidding, Brother.......

I guess Benjamin Franklin's old adage about how people generally get the kind of government they deserve,.............can be expanded to include Union representation also..........

OH MY!! Come on now, you HAVE to admit that the Trumpster is nothing like his predecessor!! Settle in, buckle up and hold on, it's guaranteed to be a rough and exciting ride. Have you ever ridden a dirt bike on the RR? It's going to be like that ride while you're getting yourself up to speed. And once you get going it's smooth as can be. You'll think that you're riding in the clouds. Trust me.

Never ever heard the name Ernie Soehl but I have heard the name Hoffa, Jr. I'm not even union and I think that he is a piece of ::shit:: that would sell his children to the sex slave trade to maintain power. Hoffa doesn't do anything that doesn't benefit him. Anybody, that Hoffa promotes, don't turn your back on him.

And you know this because of what? Don't believe everything you hear. I have my reasons for not liking Hoffa Jr. But obviously a lot of Teamsters liked him or he wouldn't have been in office this long. He must have done some good things but I can't think of any.

:732::chairshot:Only teamsters are allowed to talk about our gutless leader thata way.
