ABF | New Freight Director.

And you know this because of what? Don't believe everything you hear. I have my reasons for not liking Hoffa Jr. But obviously a lot of Teamsters liked him or he wouldn't have been in office this long. He must have done some good things but I can't think of any.
Neither can most of us Americans, those damn Canadians love him for some reason.

I've know Mr. Soehl and working side by side with him for the past 3 years. He is a bulldog, tells it how it is. Sometimes people don't like to hear the truth. Before getting negative with out having to know him I think I would give the man a chance before inserting foot in mouth. Just my opionion.
Maybe they just needed somebody to shut off the lights when it is all over.
The "Fat Lady" is going through singing rehearsals right now.

Yup.......No Unions in trucking. That way, when your factory goes on strike, there will be plenty of non-Union picket line crossers to help the billionaire move his products through the picket line.,........... Effectively negating any strike anywhere in America.......(and Canada......).....

No more bargaining with any Union as long as you can find enough desperate scabs willing to ***** themselves out to make and move that Billionaires' products.

That is the ultimate end game of deregulation.

And,.....I'm speaking this as someone who was......"deregulated"........ out of 9 good Union jobs....

Why you disagree with that really. As far as your question , I have no idea who was there before him nor do I care.like I said the local members love him and he runs a great local. You.obviously have an agenc

I respect your opionion. Do I feel there have been mistakes made along the way, absolutely. That would be a topic at another time. I'm just asking to give the man a chance before you crucify.
If you are in negotiations there are a couple of things that I would recommend...I would suggest that you try to get a three year contract. Three years is the norm and is what ours used to be. Then the union got lazy and pushed them up to five years. Five years is too long for a couple of reasons. The economy changes too much over five years and could permanently hinder your earnings if you're locked in with a 2% annual raise and the economy takes off. Additionally, as soon as a contract goes into effect you'll see the company start to work its loopholes and five years is an eternity while your employer has his way with you. Speaking of which, pay particular attention to purchased transportation (PT), as all of the companies are abusing it and if you're not careful you'll have Volunteer Transportation running your road work while your drivers sit home. If you don't believe it just ask around and read about it here. One other thing, don't sell out the new hires with cheap pay and lengthy progression periods, the union loves screwing that group.

Not to worry. The Democrats have fixed that. There will be plenty of "refugees" and illegal immigrants crossing our southern border to "pick up the slack" when people are locked out or just leave due to dropping wages and benefits. All YOU have to do is agree to work even cheaper than the scabs and foreign border jumpers that the Dems are now trying to bring in and justify. The Democrats do NOT "have your back" like they like to claim (and haven't for years). They just say that at every campaign cycle to get the needed votes and union contributions. The unions are no longer relevant since union membership is now at the lowest point in over 100 years (less than 6.7% in the private sector). Our borders are being flooded by potential cheap, non-union laborers and those that the Dems are counting on for votes. Political power is the most important thing for them. Power is money for THEM. Remember Hillary's promise of open borders, more regulations, no pipelines, less oil drilling, closure of coal mines and at least 500,000 more Middle East "refugees" in 2017 alone if she were elected? All that would have meant even fewer jobs and lower pay for real Americans, both union and non-union. Doesn't sound like the "WE HAVE YOUR BACK" promise given at all the Democrat political fund raisers at the many union halls. The "silent majority" of Americans and disgruntled workers like yourself that have figured this out voted for Trump, not because he was such a great potential leader, but because Hillary and the Dems have become anti-labor, anti-American and more worried about other countries' people than they are about the home grown Americans here that need help and good jobs. The sad part is that even after the drubbing they got at the last election - they still "just don't get it". The Dems and their supporters are still crying and rioting and blaming others instead of themselves.
A sobering 2015 statistic is that private sector union membership is now at only 6.7%, while the public sector unions (gov't workers, teachers, police, post office and most of Wash, DC) are covered by AFSCME and others are at 35.2%. The Dems know that private sector unions like the Teamsters just are not important to them anymore and the Freight Division is not important to Hoffa anymore. As members of the Freight Division, we are the "bottom feeders" of the 21 other divisions of the IBT and therefore are regarded as such by politicians and Hoffa. As I said before, there is nothing left of the Freight Division to manage. Mr Soehl is just there to "turn out the lights" when "The Fat Lady Sings".

Great post, henry! Wow...lots to try and digest there.

I don't believe that the 1.4 million Teamsters aren't important to the democrats.................. Mr. Soehl organized FedEx S. Brunswick into his local 701. It was a hard fought battle but he and the brave FedEx workers were successful. I think with Soehl's 3 years experience fighting FedEx and the lessons he learned trying to organize Overnite he will work hard at growing the Freight Division. Hoffa may not care but I believe Soehl does. I doubt that he would have taken on the job just to turn out the lights.

It would be nice to think you are right, but Teamster membership in general has been dropping like a rock for years (ever since 1983). The Freight Division is the "bottom feeder" of the whole Teamster organization, rife with corruption, mismanagement and plain ol' outright theft. (Examples that come to mind include Local 120's Slawson family of thieves, Local 20's Bill Lichtenwald theft of funds in Ohio, the IBT's second in command Ken Hall now has been charged by another IRB, West coast's Rome Aloise charged in Fed IRB for corruption that included a laundry list of charges) These are only a few of the known corruption cases involving Teamster bosses. There are undoubtedly many more busy filling their own pockets with members' money that haven't been exposed yet. Considering that all this corruption by Teamster bosses AND the corruption and mismanagement (and possible plain ol' outright theft) at the Central States Pension Fund - NOBODY to my knowledge in many, many years has spent even one day in jail over it. Since all this is public knowledge, as well as the CSPF being in the crapper with hundreds of thousands of retirees left holding the empty bag, how in hell can anyone with even half a brain believe that ANYONE can or will bring the Teamster Freight Division back and find the tens of thousands of new members needed? People that are looking for a job are also looking for one with a future and some kind of a pension plan. The Teamster Freight Division can now promise neither one. without lying about it. Nobody likes be screwed and lied to. Private union membership is now under 12.7% of the workforce and going nowhere but down. The companies know it. The people looking for a job know it. The crooked politicians know it. There is no bargaining power anymore. If a freight company is struck, the customers just go elsewhere. The other union trucking companies not on strike just work harder and put on more trucks and people to pick up the slack. I went through that in several nationwide "selective strikes". My so called "union brothers" never showed on our picket lines and were working all the overtime and extra road runs at their non-struck companies they could get and begging for more to pick up the slack and steal our customers. So much for "The Brotherhood of Teamsters".

You kind of sound like me on a rant. There is just one thing though...in one post you put private union membership at 12.7% but in the other at 6.7%...where does it stand?

Either figure is bad.......... If we add ' em both and divide by half,......... It'll still be just as bad.........

I certainly hope, Brother Henry J , that you're not counting on Mr. Trump and his merry band of Republican enablers to rescue organized Labor,.........Or any Labor, for that matter.....

I'm old enough to remember Mr.Trump's antics back in the '70's and '80's........He's a slick, shrewd salesman,.......Always has been,........ and he's done a heckuva sales job on the electorate,........because most voters only know of him from "Celebrity Apprentice" and on.....Tigers don't change their stripes......

Without getting too deep into politics........I'll just mention one Cabinet pick: Elaine Chao

Former Secretary of Labor under W.......Second trophy wife of Mitch McConnell..........Heir to the Chinese Ocean Shipping Lines (Cosco)........... and now, Secretary of Transportation!?

Ultimate Washington insider......He's not "draining the swamp"........He's dredging it out so Billionaires can float their yachts through it!

Lord help us all......Union and non-Union alike......

I forgot to say the 12.7% figure was for the total workforce in the US only 12.7% were unionized. The latest data is even worse.
In answer to your question ; Straight off the latest US Dept of Labor Statistics -
"Public sector workers had a union membership rate of 34.4% - more than 5 times higher than that of private sector workers rate of 6.4%"
The new total of ALL the US workforce put out by the Dept of Labor Statistics is that as of Jan 26, 2017 only 10.7% of the total workforce is unionized, A decline of .4% or 240,000 members from the same time a year ago.
Sorry about the confusion.

I said it in the past & I will say it again. 21% of eligible voters in the general election bothered. On a 100 man road & city board if you get more than 10 people to show up @ the monthly freight meeting @ the hall, thank Jesus. For a miracle has occurred. In other words until you have the other 79% bothering to vote or go to a meeting, your wasting time & money. The figures don’t lie. 79% don’t give a crap. Until you get 80% or more to show or bother to care the IBT Leadership will do what they want & can get away with. That 80% that didn’t show up, must be quite content with what they have. Von.

In the last election we all had a choice of hope or no hope. The American people chose hope.
Obama, Hillary and their crowd had their chance over the last 8 years. Now it is a mess.
Trump cannot even start at ground zero. He is now faced with first trying to get this country out of the hole Obama and company has dug for him. It's no east task being POTUS, even starting out on level ground. Trump and his team are faced with first trying to dig out of the "hole" left for them and now the "sore loser" Democrats are busy trying to drag Trump back into the hole THEY dug over the last 8 years. Whatever happened to the "Smooth transition of power" that Hillary was bragging about as being one thing Americans should be proud of. Her crowd of childish Democrats are doing everything in their power to drag this country and the new President down including illegal wiretaps on appointed Trump cabinet picks before the inauguration, and personal attacks on Trumps family members. It is both embarrassing for us in this country to see the desperate actions of a bunch of pitiful politicians, but it is damaging for this county's image to the world as well the safety of OUR people. I'm real tired of the Democrats being more concerned about non-citizens of America that with actual, born and raised American citizens in THIS country that need good jobs and a secure southern border that stops the drug traffic and human trafficking as much as possible.
They are more than willing to trade our national security, our jobs and our national economy for their political power.

I agree with everything you say, but the turnout was even worse. It was more like 16.4%. Pathetic and also the worst turnout in the history of so-called "fair and secret ballot" elections that started in 1990. Before the last election, Hoffa even tried to do away with the members right to vote. He wanted to go back to the old days when only the Teamster officials chose who to put in leadership positions. Any member that does not get off his/or her butt to mail in a ballot (and actually THINK ABOUT who to vote for) has NO RIGHT to any opinion on how the IBT or their Local is being run.
WE ARE OUR OWN WORST ENEMY.
Hoffa loves it that way.

I voted for Trump because of what he said he was going to try to do. I understand he might only get 50% done of what he promised. He will fail on some, excel on others. What worries me is he has no one of any long term experience or background helping to set policy & implement it. He is putting people in critical jobs that have no experience on how to traverse the Federal Government bureaucracy & politics of Washington, DC. For his agenda to be a success, he must put experienced people in places where experience will get a government that functions @ a level far greater than his predecessor. Until he does that, the entrenched federal workers will fight him tooth & nail to not to change the status quo. Leaving a failed White House Policy across the nation. To be a 2 term president & Make America Great Again, he needs to learn to deal with the press, & hire people with the know how to run the Federal Government. Using the my way policy instead the best way policy, will make him a 1 term president. It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. Von.

Seems like he and his cabinet is trying to be best friends with Russia.

Wouldn't you like Russia to help us defeat ISIS instead of help them infiltrate us? Trump's looking for allies that will actually help us, not just foot the bill like NATO and the UN seems to want. just my opinion

And why are we paying millions more than any other country in the UN while most members ::shit:: on us & laugh about it. You can bet POTUS & the Senate will change that. Don't know how much but less money to the countries & the UN who praise death & destruction to Americans. von.

Looking for an alliance with a country we have imposed sanctions on imposed by previous administration and approved by current GOP congress. National security advisor resigns due to conversations with Russia prior to elections. I forgot a couple of his billionaire club cabinet does business in Russia. Sounds more like a business move than an security measure to me.
