R&L | I have a question to all the drivers who have been at R&L for lets say at least 5 or 6 years.

I am a driver in Dallas and over the past let's say 6 years we have had 4 different terminal managers. 2 were complete piles of :shhit:. One didn't know up from down and the best one left about 3 and 1/2 year ago. Let's call the best Steve G. Don't get me wrong we didn't hang out but it was obvious he knew what he was doing. Kept everyone happy....everyone. The latest one let's call him Barry came in threatening everyone that he was going to fire you if you did this...that...or the other thing. He covered all the mistakes going on by having his lead dispatcher Damon pull anything off manifests that didn't happen. Covered theft by not reporting it. Kept the drivers, dock workers and office people under his thumb as much as possible. Multiple people violated his don't do's but kept their jobs. let's get away from that.....My question is how many terminal managers have you all had in let's say the past 5 to 10 years. Oh btw Damon did such a good job covering all the mistakes making Barry look good Barry promoted him to OP's manager and the guy doesn't have a high school education.

Sounds somewhat like our terminal, deliveries that cant be done, usually because of long running router problems, are deleted from manifests so it doesnt show up as a return.apparently Wilmington was beginning to take notice, and instead of fixing the ongoing problem and the people creating the problems. We just hide them.We have only had 2 Terminal managers in 14 years.First one was on top of everything and mistakes by anyone only happened ONCE!!!!! That person never made same mistake twice.Nobody misses him but it was nice to have problem with something and go to him and be assured that it was NEVER gonna happen again. Line hauls were ALWAYS back on time and all trucks were loaded and out the door at 8:30,If linehaul was late, he was on the phone with that terminal and it never happened again.New paperless system has not sped anything up at all. Been almost a year with it now and no improvement at all in getting trucks on the street sooner.Lead dispatcher at our place was also promoted to Operations Manager, yet nobody knows what he really does.He is definitely not looking over the routes every morning that he complained about for 10 years as a dispatcher. Not really sure what is involved with his position, Maybe he is doing a good job,but nobody really knows what he is supposed to be doing.

We have the same TM we opened with. Hes got issues for sure but not the worst Ive seen. Sometimes, I think hes Bipolar. Our biggest issue is not utilizing manpower correctly IMO.

Wilmington does not care, as long as the numbers look good an the TM can squeeze a dime from a nickel . South Bends Tm has treated every employees with discust an
Uncaring so much that we can not hire anyone that has heard about him . We have went thru 6 local new drivers in the last 3 weeks. They work them to death an they quit, but if Wilmington asks he blames it on dispatch, or other drivers , anything but the way he runs the terminal into the ground. We are refusing freight left an right , drivers are full, too much freight to pick up , nobody in the area, drivers too overwhelmed, we are short handed an he can't run this terminal the way it needs to be. He believes this terminal is here to supply him with a check an his bonus checks , an that he is Untouchable because he knows how his numbers look, he's a bully an needs replaced , an.if Wilmington thinks he's so great , promote him then he can be your problem.

Our 5th in 6 years is now here. He seems ok. At least he speaks to the employees with respect. He's from the Milwaukee terminal.

Apparently we have a lot of drivers quitting I just don't keep up with that part. We have alot of driver's and more than our share of guys who hang out in their respective areas for a couple hours every day. If their dispatcher doesn't care neither do I. I do my job then I go home. I don't worry about the stuff that doesn't affect me.

Back in the day, there were "attitude trailers" that produced great results when these types of issues arose.:02.47 tranquillity:

Still the fuhrer's problem. He runs the barn.

Ive been with R+L 13 and a half years now, 11 and a half at the present terminal that we opened up together with our present TM.
I have noticed this new manager is still trying his best to fix the issues. I like him. I do my job and go home. Nuff said
