With Saia being the tech savy company that it seems to be. Does anyone think self-driving trucks are in Saia's future? I don't know about the rest of you, but I would hate to be looking for a job within 5-10 years of retiring. Below are links to a couple articles that scare the s##t out of me.

Until they figure out a way to get that freight
Off the truck and those inside deliveries made your job is safe

I see most drivers have their head in the sand and just blowing this off. That will not stop it, it is coming. I am not trying to scare anyone, but just looking to be prepared. There will be driving jobs. They will just be fewer and pay less IMO.

Will we have robots to pickup and deliver the freight as well. Either way I don't really care. I will be retired.

I don't think the public want hazmat loads going down the road autonomous with terrorist in our country. I was going down highway 2wks ago and truck dash said electrical problems and it started slowly shutting down so i pulled to the shoulder and cut it off. I waited a few minutes then it cranked back up. I called the shop and they said probably just a glitz. Yeah autonomus will just work perfect.

Autonomus trucks will require a driver with higher skills than truck driving. After all. Will that self driving truck position itself to the far right when it dies? And WHO is going to push the buttons once it dies?

I will start worring when they can program a truck to back itself into a dock and between trailers. If that was possible that should be the first concern. There are tons of newer drivers now that have a nearly impossible time learning that....

And another thing if these autonomus trucks break down who sets out the triangles. A autonomus truck break down in a curve and no triangles out and here comes a car and there's a accident, it will be 75 lawyers wanting that case.

Chiz, you can't have a trucking company without having insurance. Who is going to sell an insurance policy, to a company, that tries to operate driverless trucks?

The Insurance companies are excited about this technology the whole point is safety at least for the insurance companies. It addresses many problems in the trucking industry like driver shortage, hours of service, safety, and most importantly the bottom line. I hope Train is correct that most of us will be retired before this comes along, but a new company is started everyday in the race to be the first to deploy it. It is coming, the only thing holding it back right now is regulation.

25 years from now, when the whole nation has driverless cars- there won't be insurance for trucks that have DRIVERS.

I hate that....

According to the insurance companies, the DRIVERS are cause for all accidents. Then, according to their logic, driverless trucks wouldn't need insurance. So why wouldn't every trucking company want a fleet of driverless trucks? Think about it. They pay an extra 1/4 million dollars to save a buck three eighty per month. Now that's a good return. Yeah. Right.
