Yellow | Yrc The Cancer Of The Trucking Industry

Alot of people here ought to go into wall street forcasting!
Way too much information repeated.
Sarcasm. Now don't get on my arse.
Thing is. Who cares anymore?
I don't. Too late to give a crap.
The new guys should.
I don't mean by coming in with a chip on your shoulder with six months work under your belt. I see it already. That's the future of this company.
What little future is left.
We should be proud to drive and pull antiques down the city streets and state hiways.
Lol.
Nah. It's dangerous. So many ways for the companies downfall.
It only takes one person to finish knocking down the domino's.
It's comin.
When the gates are shut and your checks not in the bank.
That's when you. We. Can move on.
And there is life after. The world keeps moving on. It won't even be a blip on the radar when it comes.
YRC who? What happened? Never heard of them.
Philosophers here too!
Ha. Not me. Just a lowly Lumper. Bottom of the ladder in company terms. Lowlife.
P. S.
Alot of good reading and perspectives in here. I agree with some disagree with others.
But all in all yrc doesn't realize how smart their employees are.
No BS. We keep it running. Not saying I'm a smart person.
But we keep it running with our backs and brains everyday.
Keep on Truckin!

My attention has been drawn to a recent management position that was filled with a convicted child molester .
Wow. Desperate. He won't be around long. That's the bottom of the barrel with no bottom to the barrel. Omgoodness. If true. Not saying it's not true. I believe they would hire anyone. And this proves it. Not so back in the day.

From the definition quoted even though I do like your analogy as well!

"
cancer
listen (KAN-ser)
A term for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and can invade nearby tissues. Cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. There are several main types of cancer. Carcinoma is a cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs. Sarcoma is a cancer that begins in bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective or supportive tissue. Leukemia is a cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue, such as the bone marrow, and causes large numbers of abnormal blood cells to be produced and enter the blood. Lymphoma and multiple myeloma are cancers that begin in the cells of the immune system. Central nervous system cancers are cancers that begin in the tissues of the brain and spinal cord. Also called malignancy.
More Information

Yellow is the cell that divided and invaded near by tissue--- "Preston, Jevic, Roadway, USF(Holland,Red Star,Redway,Dugan), New Penn, the list going back over the years grow's as we all know.
It spreads throughout the system and destroys good cells... I.E. above mentioned companies.

When putting pen to paper one of the most difficulties at times is choosing a title that conveys the direction of the article. Using a simple analogy that is easy for a reader to relate to is often the best. I simply chose this analogy because we all know someone or have experienced it in our lives. Over on the Holland thread it was misconceived as being insensitive to those who have suffered through it and that was not the intention or point of the article.

That said when you actually do the math and these are low average numbers by the way, combined the givebacks alone not including the pension and vacations given up hovers around 3 Billion dollars. The actual numbers are higher given overtime and additional factors.

I have read most of the feedback and what newer drivers do not really understand is that we either agreed or were forced into this giveback in one way or another. For those who were with the companies prior to 2009 the pill though bitter was able to be swallowed till 2015. The ensuing MOU in 2014 to 2019 was what drove the moral into the pits.

Many continued to hold the line on work ethic alone and performed their duties accordingly, while others lost heart in it all but as mentioned were buying time. The problem there is that the time needed for full service with the freeze in pensions only made it worse so that has made the moral decline even more for many.

With open eyes the company is failing and it is only a matter of time because nothing is really being done to fix that problem. No matter how much sacrifice the rank and file make without absolute change it will join the bone yard.

The article was written to provoke thought and express what so many feel but will not openly state. Management reads these boards as well as officers in the Union local and international. They need to understand that open discussion and the understanding that the rank and file are not what they make us out to be behind closed doors. That was what the statement in the first paragraph was about..

By the way I know some will misconstrue the article as someone being disgruntled and in some ways it is, but its is the truth.
Bravo Toby bravo.oncore oncore!!

I was a yes voter. Why?
I let that known at the time.
Numbers is what matters.
The union matters. There is a bigger picture than what we get. If anybody saw the primaries and the presidential election you'd see that money matters. Money controls our nation. And numbers too.
All the people Trump beat had tons of money behind them.
Numbers actually won this election...not money. At least not yet..although money is trying.
If you take our numbers out of freight...it will get worse much quicker than if we stick together.
Hoffa should've had FedEx and Conway done in Obama's time....I don't think the Dems even want us having any real numbers.....they just want our money.

We were credited with giving Obama victory.
Union areas were also credited with giving Trump victory.
We still matter....but they don't want us too.
This Citizens United is what the game is:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-s-state-legislatures/?utm_term=.c6f7daa4700b
They want us gone. That leaves only corporations controlling our politicians from local to state to national levels.
They don't want the workers to have a political voice....they only want money to have power.
Right-to-work...also shows that they fear our power. That takes our money away.
We won Obama with money.
We won Trump with numbers even though our leaders didn't support him.
If we hold the numbers together.....we win it all for a long time.

It isn't just about YRC. It's about a large percentage of union members in freight.......our opposition will take out as many union members as they can in any job.

Eventually we either turn it around or end up back in violent times...baseball bats in the streets.

If I had any say...I'd have all union leaders from all unions strike and shut the nation down and demand that Right-To-work be removed from ALL states just like they are trying to impose it on all states.
All union leaders should say enough is enough and use their stageshow on Right-to-work against them. All union leaders tell all members we strike at such and such date....and anybody who crosses the line at any of our employers is fired once our goal is achieved and we go back to work.
Police..teachers, transit workers, government office workers, prison gaurds, toll takers.......everybody.
Until right-to-work is gone from all states.
The GOP is relying on their economic smarts to turn the economy around..it didn't work under Bush and won't work now.......especially if we shut them down....nothing moves and many won't be able to function.

What about Utah where the LDS church runs the scam ?

One question......which guys who left are actually doing better?
I can only think of guys who went to other union companies...but they even have to sacrifice about 4 years to get back where they were at the best which is UPS Parcel feeder drivers....3 years below $20/hour.
other companies pay better but they are treated the same...and get scammed on overpriced health insurance.
What good is a $3/hour pay increase with a $200/week insurance increase out of pocket?

I retired from YRC 06/01/2009 at age 58 without a plan. If not for the buyout and merger, I would of stayed with Roadway longer. As it tuned out, so far I have no complaints.

That's good to hear. A lot of guys made it to the end which would not have, right?
Nobody's happy about any of it. And nothing says I'll ever vote yes again. Things change. But I still think we are better off that we stuck together than if we'd have closed the place which I think they would have.
Toby follows the GOP ideology. I even think he was gonna run for some political office awhile back. He's recently posted about the future of trucking is in Uber and small independents. Typical GOP ideology...business. investments.
None of that will get anybody like us anywhere imo.
Perhaps our sticking together kept the Mexican trucks out. Automated trucks is the future and Toby has posted about that. Perhaps sticking together can hold that off or stop it for more uneducated guys to raise families without being stuck inside somewhere working and collecting welfare simultaneously.

Parcel pays 21.45 an hour second year. 25.45 3rd year. Mileage tops out 3rd year currently around .82 a mile.

I'd say they are doing a lot better over there and juse about everywhere else. YRC pay is ridiculously low.
If you guys don't get .60 a mile and at least 25 an hour with no cuts to healthcare everyone who voted no should just walk out a once.
And there are many more greener pastures. Don't try and make it sound like there's not.

Second year.....after you make the list....and how long you take to make list, if you make the list, is unpredictable.
Name the green pastures...and the pay and bennies and time frame to get them.
It's not great hear. Matter of fact it's pretty miserable...but I can't see it being any better anywhere else. Strating at the bottom and going through progression all over again.
I actually went to UPS for a week last spring. I think it was gonna take longer than you say to hit over $21. I think their were $17 & $19 rates first....too low for me to make it.
Top rates are best but my kids would've spent there last years in school living under a bridge before I hit it...

It takes 30 working days and you have two months or so to do it if I remember correctly.
I never met anyone that didn't make it in time.
And raises are on your actual start date not seniority date.

Old dominion, saia estes. They have low insurance costs matching 401k and start experienced drivers close to top rate. All three are around .64 a mile.
There's fed ex freight too.
I hate to say it but YRC sucks.

The whole LTL world sucks. Not one is better than the other. Just pick one and go for it.
Go read some of the other company boards here. Lots of complaints.
Ya. Yrc sucks. What else is new?

They do but YRC is bottom of the barrel right now. I can kinda understand why some might have voted yes to keep the company afloat last contract.....or two. Whenever it was they took back 15%. But if they say they can't give back a huge chunk back to the employees this contract and stay a float, IMO they shouldn't be in business anymore.

Like I said.
What else is new.
Trucking.
Drivers.
Dock.
Whatever has always been looked down on and we are all the bottom of the barrel.
Have you worked for YRC?
Yellow?
Roadway?

Last spring starting pay was 18.75 single 19.20 for doubles start. Second year 21.00 single 21.45 doubles.
Unless you're at a tiny hub you'll make around $50k first year. I'm sure still a large pay cut if you had seniority at yrc. But it's not starvation wage.

Edit 19.20 for doubles start. 19.95 first raise doubles. 21.45 was second raise.

Never worked for YRC but know what the pay scale is and it's pretty far from a lot of other LTLs
