ABF | U.E. runs part 2

Just spoke with Brian. ABF pays per week per employee for pension & medical right @ 700.00 each week. About 360.00 of that goes to the Medical & 340.00 to the Pension side. Keep in mind that YRC pays only about 25% of the Pension side & the same as ABF for the Medical side. My quote of about 35 grand a year was very close. I had how the money was split wrong. So the amount paid from 6 years ago to now has not changed much. Hope this helps. von.

To switch that work to a road board would take a change of operations...... no one sees a change on the horizon, so, no...... they are just going to throw these guys to the wolves,
....... Unless their Local fights for a change of ops with a "follow the work" provision and proof of where that work went.

Two contracts ago, when they ended PSE and created a UE position, they separated the man from the freight(work). There is no such thing as "UE" freight.......... You have a "Utility Employee" on the city board who can cross jurisdictions ...... with or without freight.

Becomes real hard at a COO hearing to say : "My Utility freight went to the road"........ There is no "Utility freight".........
 
We were told in Atlanta that all UE work was city work. If a road driver took a transfer and was bumped or had their UE run canceled, they would then fall into the city seniority.

Absolutely right, Brother. Now, apparently, they are cancelling most UE runs over 250 one way. Where does that work go, and who gets bumped down on the city board?

If all this was originally road work, and bids got cancelled, there would be a COO, and a "follow the work" provision.

Not an ABF guy but my understanding was when the UE was created and the road men were mover their was a non retreat clause in the UE change.
I always watched what the other outfits did because LTL is like Monkey see Monkey do.

Yes, there is the non-retreat language pertaining to road drivers transferring to a UE position. And UE drivers perform road work,. .......... sometimes to the detriment of the on-call guys on the bottom of the road board.

Companies get to have their proverbial cake, and eat it, too. And....... at the expense of their employees.

So....... Now that they are going to cancel UE runs over 250 miles, ...... without a COO.......Who gets hurt? Probably the new-hires on the bottom of the city board who will get squeezed out by a higher seniority man fitting back into the city.

Where does the former UE "work" go? Road, obviously,...... but probably with no additional bids added.

I guess this is the "flexibility" the companies wanted....... The ability to flow work from one board to another without those pesky COO's that require "follow the work" provisions to make it fair for all employees.

Company can now cancel runs on a whim,...... and to heck with those whiny, complaining, laid-off employees.......

We're getting closer to operating just like the non-Union carriers.
 
It sounds like there will be more work for PT carriers in the near future. And why are we paying union dues? At this point how can any of us support this sorry excuse for a union?

Like you said, it's time for the erstwhile Mr. Soehl to step into the breach and straighten out this steaming heap of a contract.

If you had something pithy to say, instead of snarky comments, I don't think anyone would mind you being here,........ no matter who you work for..........

I kinda got a soft spot for you,....... like a younger, slightly "slower" brother that needs a knock upside the head every once in a while.......

Did you remember to vote for Hoffa in the last election,........ or don't they give ballots to Con-Way drivers?

That does beg a question, did the XPO yards that have voted in the Teamsters and do not have a contract get to vote in the last national election?

That is a good question, and I'm afraid I don't have the answer. I'd be just guessing , as per our Brother above. I'm kind of thinking they would be, because up-to-date dues payment constitutes full-fledged member status, as opposed to lack of a contract.

Not sure,.....and my lack of knowledge bothers me....
