Anyone here from or know anything about the KC terminal? Found a job posting for local city drivers, been lumping groceries for a while and am honestly tired of having to choose between being a zombie or sacrificing time with the family to get enough sleep to be at work by 3-4am. The commute would be much closer too.
From reading other threads have a pretty good idea what the pay range is like. More interested in the work environment there as well as what the hours are like. Typical start/end times? OT available, required or both? Local drivers have to work on dock? Foodservice isn't seasonal, that combined with our massive turnover means no lack of work...is that something to be concerned with at SAIA?
Looking to hear the good, bad, and the ugly from anyone with knowledge about this terminal.

I do know, OT after 45.

OT after 45 as previously stated. No dock work for P&D typically unless you want it and even then it's not like slinging groceries, mostly forklift. Hours will vary per region but a good average for a new guy would be 10-11AM to around 8-9PM. Busy season coming up so you will get all the hours you want. SAIA rarely lays off. Come on over.

I agree with Runaway. Anything is better than pushing groceries. Coming to Saia will seem like a breeze compared to what you are doing now and Saia is a good company to work for. I worked groceries for 24 years. Get out while you have your health

I'm not based there, but have been there many times. They just got done expanding the dock and renovating everything. The whole building is basically brand new. You won't ever do dock work at the bigger terminals.

Not a bad place to work. But, based on your experience, they may put you on Starbucks and Cato deliveries. Those are both labor intensive deliveries: break down and deliver multiple pallets using a 2 wheeler.

Wrong!!! Those deliveries are time sensitive and go to higher seniority guys with early start times.

Nothing like making a broad spectrum assumption of a potential employee before you have even met. Your bullying ways never cease to amaze me train...

BTW...I did Starbucks within my first month with Saia. Just sayin

As a general rule it goes as I previously stated. There are always exceptions.

Let me point out that my brother in law is a regional manager for Starbucks.
In his area ALL deliveries are done in the afternoon after 2:00 pm. The last thing the company wants is a truck taking up space during their busiest time of day mornings, and the after lunch wake up cup.
Maybe things are different when the Texas railroad connection gets involved.

Every Starbucks has a time window in Texas and each one is different. Whatever the window is you better hit it. Not before and not after. They don't play. That's why they leave out early on peddle routes so the driver can adjust his route according to the time he needs to hit. Most new guys don't get Starbucks because they want the regular route driver to do it. He knows the in's and out's and there is very little margin for error.

Most windows in Texas are between 12-2 .. Very little after 2 if any .. Texans don't like coffee for lunch I suppose. I sure don't.
