WE were told that four new drivers would be hired in the coming weeks, Does anyone know what is going on ? There is not that much freight at our barn.

To stack the deck with yes votes. Hiring standards at our barn have dropped to nothing. Can you spell "truck"? ..... hired. Our TM justifies it with potential retirements and UPacks. My guess is to get enough yes votes on the list to pass an even worse contract than the last one. Most of our new hires have never made $20 hr or had the benefits we do. They'll say yes to anything that was better than their previous job.

If you worked at a pizza shop for over 10 years, making and delivering pizza for $10 an hr and now you're making 60K with a pension and benefits, what will you say to a "little pay cut and some concessions"? Yes, that's an example of a guy we have. Hell of a nice guy, but how do you think he'll vote when the company uses its scare tactics and our union tells him this is the best contract you're gonna get....

JMHO

UPS Freight is already doing that with their in-house 3pl Coyote Logistics. There are two big subcontracting grievances that have already been deadlocked at the regional level and are going to the national panel......

ABF can keep up the masquerade that they are a "Union" carrier,....... if they have three ABF employees and twenty subcontractors on every city dock......"As long as ALL ABF employees have been offered work...."

If, through attrition and retirements, they can bleed down each City operation to just a fourth of what it is now......... they can subcontract all they want,....... and cry about their "inability" to hire qualified drivers..

I am always glad to see more people hired. The more that are hired will be all the more that will contribute to my pension. I can't see any company hiring workers they don't need. It would be ridiculous for the company to pay wages & benefits just to take a chance those hired would vote for a contract.

I'm with you here, and I luuuuvvvv to see the old geezers keep contributing too. They're more beneficial to me than new hires because every day that they work is one that they won't be dipping into my till.

Aaaahhhhh but therein lies the beauty of the freight industry, just because you are 'on the list' does not mean that you will work and the hiring personnel don't pass that tidbit on to the new hires.

Uh-Oh!......Sorry to disappoint you....This old geezer is done June 2nd,....then I start taking it out,....as long as it's there.

Maybe I should go get fitted for a Wal-Mart vest as a Plan B.......
No disappointment here, it's always good the hear that an old geezer finally wakes up and says, "I don't have to take it any more". Now...about that Halibut fishing excursion...

Be careful what you wish for!

Got me a job as a greeter, was there bright and early first morning
up comes the meanest, most hateful lady you could imagine, bit my head off,
think she got up on the wrong side of the bed.
Thought I'd try again, Mam those are fine looking boys you have, are they twins?
Said HELL NO Idiot, can you not tell the age difference? One is 5 the other 9.
Said yes mam,I really could, but as ugly as you are I didn,t think you could get laid twice.
Thank you for shoping at Walmart.
got canned my first day.

Sucks I got denied a job with them over a misdemeanor that happened 25 years ago. Smh.

Sorry to hear that, Brother. Their "high" standards are probably going to get lowered in the future as the available pool of experienced LTL guys shrinks. But in the meantime , they are missing out on some good guys.
