FedEx Freight | Management

Lol what brought this thread about?
Probably because everyone feels this way, I think. Every company has management more interested in reinventing the wheel than running things the way that works.

Most of the time, it's trying to figure out how to profit from cheap freight. It'd be too easy to just charge more, I guess.

We start a new run on the 3rd I took, I have a slipseat truck. The original run had been moved up in time a hour and a half from it's original start time but the same slipseat remained. So at the time you got the truck around 60% of the time, depending on the driver some better some worse but they had the truck 100% because of my arrival time
Here's the problem the new run leaves even a hour early and they wanted to leave the same slip. He would never be back. We showed them it won't work. So the reason for the post the obvious thing is no slip on new run but there determine to make it one even though none are back in time. We only have 12 slipseat runs out of the 90 runs we have. They have always been a issue on the first runs but seem to never get fixed. To easy to just grab another truck today.
This is the main reason I don't want a award truck that I'm due for in one year. I would never see it half the time

That sucks for sure.

Do you have to slipseat an award truck?

From my understanding, it's not your local management's decision to determine slip-seats (runs and/or trucks), that decision is made by someone in HRO based on several factors including mileage on truck, age of truck, run miles, etc...which totally baffles me in the first place!! There's just too many variables involved to make that decision just by looking at a computer screen, IMO. We have runs that shouldn't slip-seat but do while having others that could/should but don't!!

Do what the slip's do at my place when their trucks an't back on time . write them up for some shop work then they don't have a tractor

management does over think things all the time. then they make some dumb A@# decisions. all the time do they not listen to the people that deal with it everyday. But don't worry they got this from their desk in the office.

Yes,if your on a slipseat run

I would look for clarification on this. If true, it makes little of no sense. Every road truck on our yard is a "potential" slip seat. City bids include every road unit, EXCEPT the reward truck. Same for the city drivers' reward truck. Reward trucks are supposed to be used only as a last resort, after all others.

Again, clarification via higher authority seems necessary. I don't see where the bid chosen should be a determining factor.

I'm not saying you're wrong, just that it makes no sense.

This was my understanding as well that a reward truck was for that driver unless all other options have exhausted. However with the management at his particular barn they don't care who drives what, and nothing is ever done about it.

The problem that's heading there way is the slipseat runs are all held by drivers that are all do for a award truck within the next couple years. So if we don't have to slipseat then that would basically stop at that point and I don't think that will happen.
So you get a truck awarded that you may never drive while others trash it. So sad
As of last Wednesday they had me assigned to the bid truck but would drive another truck everyday if it was here and would have to change the paperwork daily to the said truck because I was still assigned mine. As of Friday I forced myself back in my bid truck that I will only see on Monday to prove a point to Central this isn't working.
