Just wondering if anyone works out of Cincinnati on the p&d side. Whats some pros and cons. Thinking about comming over there.

Or anyone that dose p&d. I guess what are the hours u work. Any anything els that mite help. Im Regional now with only a 34 on weekends.

I'm not from Cincinnati but I can tell you Estes doesn't hire strictly P/D drivers anymore. You're either hired as LH, hub, or combo. So you'll be hired as combo and probably work mostly p/d if the work constitutes having you work p/d. As far as I understand the combo position anymore. You'll basically be offered whatever work there is. Still might be better than your current situation, then again it might not. Might wanna apply and see what the TM has to say about what his combo guys do. I don't know anyone from Cincy personally or on here. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Appreciate it. Linehall or combo is it m/f? Just trying to spend more time with the kids bouth Regional jobs i took said they would get me threw the house to do a 10. Stil waiting to see that lol. Or longer home than a 34

I couldn't have anyway of telling you what days or nights you'd work. That'd be another thing you'd have to try and get from the TM. Most extraboard LH guys start Monday nights. The bigger barns have start days that vary. Just plan to be out for 5 home for 2. The combo would probably be Monday though Friday city work, but those start times can vary as well. I really don't know much about what the operation is like out in Cincy. You're honestly better off applying and talking to the TM.

My terminal hires p&d guys. Might be different at some terminals based on need.

Either way, p&d is mostly m-f but at some larger terminals they have some t-sat guys.

Linehaul extraboard is 5 on 2 off. Your start day could be any day of the week, but it won't change week to week. For example, say you hire on as a Tuesday start, you'll be Tuesday-Saturday.

Combo does whatever job is needed. Usually Monday-Friday but some are Tuesday-Saturday as needed. You might run nighttime linehaul schedules one week or work in the city another week.

Whatever job you decide to do, pick one and stick with it. We have a classification based seniority system. If you want to have a scheduled linehaul bid run one day, don't waste your time doing p&d work.

Good luck. Estes is a really good place to work. Lots of people complain but I guess that's what truck drivers do.

I forgot about the 2 or 3 guys we have that do have a day scheduled to work on the weekends p/d. We used to have a guy that flipped Wmx on sundays then worked p/d Monday-Thursday.

Here at 024 they quit with the p/d classification like 3 or 4 years ago. Everyone not hired for LH or Hub is combo. Everyone that was P/d before the change is still classified p/d. When we have guys that were classified city leave for whatever reason, their old bids are replaced with combo bids. I thought the combo title replacing the p/d title was a company wide thing. Then again, every terminal is different except for the name on the sign. Lol.

The money is in linehaul. Extraboard linehaul, you'll be home for about 2.5 days a week with an occasional, but rare, layover at home throughout the week. A scheduled linehaul bid, you'll be home daily while doing the same run all 5 days of the work week M-F. At a smaller terminal like Cincinnati, you'll never be able to just hire on as a bid driver. You'll need to start at extraboard and work your way up to a bid whenever people retire or die. Like drummerforhire said, if you ever want a linehaul bid, then get on extraboard asap because p&d time will not count towards seniority on linehaul. It takes 3 years to top out and I think p&d top out is $25.45 and linehaul bid is .6325 cpm. Extraboard is a half cpm or so more than a bid run.

If you can get on as a combo driver it'd be good too.

A plus to being a combo driver is if you change to extraboard linehaul, your combo time is carried over.

If you're after money and don't mind being gone 4 or 5 nights a week, linehaul is the way to go. Some guys knock down 100k a year doing this.

Thanks for all the info guys. Another question if i do go linehall route for holidays Fourth of July is on a Tuesday this year I think, would I get it off or have to request?

You should be off.

If a holiday falls on a Saturday it's observed the Friday before. If it falls on a Sunday it's observed the Monday after. If you're scheduled to work that weekend you'll get that day off.

You might have to gently remind central dispatch throughout the week though.
