FedEx Freight | Elogs, the good, the bad and the ugly

I believe it is based on gps movement. It doesn't put you back on driving until you have moved half of a mile.
Kind of true. Once it puts you back to driving, it takes the time from when you first started moving the tractor. Mine won't kick me to driving coming out of our yard till I reach the highway. But my drive time will be at 10:55 after the screen changes.
Hope this makes sense.

Stop at the gate before you leave and manually switch from On Duty to Driving (or vice-versa when arriving at a terminal), that way your drive time won't be eaten up as you move around the yard. Otherwise a few drop/hooks at big terminals could cost you an hour of drive time over the course of a night.

That being the case it could potentially back up and show you driving during pre or post trips correct?

Yep, that too. By manually switching over, those flags will always be shown as On Duty not driving.

Another benefit of switching status manually and conserving drive time is that there's no incentive to speed around the yard like a maniac.

That's why I manually put myself on driving right as I start to pull out of the gate/truck stop. I just drive slow enough to where I can still push the buttons...

When I arrive somewhere when it pops up asking if I've arrived somewhere I say no, put myself on duty, move to where I'm going to drop out and wait for it to prompt me again. I say yes this time and fill out the arrival form then drop out.

I don't drive fast enough in the yard for it to switch me to "driving." It takes roughly 3 to 5 minutes to reach the highway so I'm guessing our times would be the same.

It's the distance not the speed that switches you to the drive line on our system. You can drive roughly 2 miles without it switching you to drive. I just wait until I get to the gate to switch it so it doesn't back it up to when I last started moving in the yard. Saves about 2-4 minutes each time you stop.

I log on as soon as I get my paperwork. Takes me roughly 30 to 40 minutes to find, hook and pretrip my tailors before I gate. This time is deducted from my on duty time, not my drive time. When the computer changes me to driving, it'll show 3 to 5 minutes gone. That is the time it takes for me to get from the gate to that spot. No time lost by letting the computer change it.
Now with that being said I don't run the system like you. I'm out and back every night. So I don't have to watch my drive time like you do.

If you stop to pee, just make sure you do it in under 3 minutes and don't do it next to the truck where the camera can see you do it. Just my thought for the day.
