ABF | Trump meets with truckers and company owners today at the white house

You're right! Come to think of it,.........I didn't see any Teamsters jackets in the crowd......

And you would think Jimmy would be sitting right in Mr. Trump's lap,...... if there was a photo op........

If there were any union drivers there, they were the ATA Road Team members and they did not represent or support the normal rank-and-file membership.

I don't think even Road Team guys were invited to that powwow. That was all about getting the wish list from trucking management on how badly they can violate our rights in the next four years.

Increase the hours of service to 92,........ Increase the length to 85,........
Increase the tonnage to 100,000
Triples where doubles are now legal.
Lower the age to 17
Remove caps off of foreign H-1B visa drivers
Verbally take CDL test in any language you like.....
And,.......If you're illiterate,........ well, we'll just rubber-stamp your license.

That'll fix the driver shortage.........

If they're illiterate , they can hold up a GPS or a laptop ( you know , the ones sitting on the dash when they go past on the highway )

This is a great country :usa: but you have to shake your head sometimes...Big companies just want butts in seats and don't care about the details ( and polititians help them right along with lax standards )

And the less butts there are the more lax the standards have become. We have yet to see what the Donald will do to/for us on this...let us pray.

Trumps supreme court pick gorsuch [however you spell it] never met a billionaire or company he didn't love. Upheld firing of a truck driver who was freezing to death. His company told to stay with the truck or drag the trailer. Make trucking great again.

Make trucking great again. Ya have to think like the Frenchies. A nationwide strike. No milk or bread on the shelves after 3 days, or maybe 2 days depending on how many drivers refuse to drive. They could use the 392.3 rule. I am to sick to drive. Go to med check get your doctors excuse for say 3 days & go fishing. Don't forget to stock up on the basics BEFORE said job action. Wait a minute. Cancel that thought. In the history of the IBT (very recent history) no one has been able to find 2 teamsters much less 3 million truck drivers to agree on what horizon the sun will rise. My apologizes for such wishful thinking. Due to the lack of a spine, may we continue to suffer from the rath of our employers. Oh well, just random thinking. von.

And who uses a CB now days? So we voice our opinions to ourselves. This leaves no chance for a strike unless it is an uncoordinated individual strike.

Hah! ...Brother Von,....it's the nature of the beast.......Most of us chose truck driving as a profession because we don't work well with others , and we have a high opinion of our opinions.........and there usually is no one to argue THAT opinion in the cab with you.......Probably why CB radios were invented........
Believe it or not, the only reason I went in to trucking in 1971 is I wanted to see the United States, especially out west. And I did just that, in many more ways than I had hoped for. Could I have gone in to another type of job? Sure. But I wanted to see the US & figured it was the best way. I figured right. von.

In the cab of my city tractor, I have what the mechanic groused about as "furniture"........my ol' Teamster entertainment center,......my radio box complete with CB and......wait for it.......a cassette player! It even gets FM........And , yes,....the CB is on all the time.......

And that used to be the way to pass information in trucking........imprecise and very localized.......

Now we have the internet........and It's turned out to be not much better than a CB. All of us on here,...and other sites.....railed against how bad the previous contract was, and recommended everyone vote it down.

Yet it passed on the first vote in most of the country.......except for the 7 supplemental areas that voted it down briefly and got to "re-vote"

Courage, information and the fortitude to strike starts at the top of a strong Union,..........and we had Tweedledee and Tweedledum leading us last contract......

Or....carrying it right to the top.....Moe, Larry, and Curly.......

Not much courage or information last contract. I guess we have to hold our collective breath to see what sort of leadership we have now......

Thumbs up on what you say, plus the companies old strategy of ( Divide and Conquer) is still alive and well today.

Canary, I think you know how smart I am, just want to make sure.
My "furniture" was just like yours,CB, radio whole 9 yards.
I was leaving one night, always put it in on right side, door was locked, I got in front of tractor
and the dispatcher met me and asked if I would pull the drive back across the scales.
We talked a minute, my mind went 500 miles away, got back in my tractor and you will never guess
in a hundred years where my box was, well you did didn't you?
Steering, drive, both trailer axles and dolly.
Went back home got shaving kit and few duds had no spare CB, FM, lonesome trip.
About two weeks later another guy did the same thing, was so nice to get them off my back.

Mistakes like that **** me off worse than anything else.

I thought I was going to be the next Harry Chapin. I hooked a mic up to my Sansui 881 and my Akai GXC710D and belted out a couple of lines. It's actually a good thing I did that as I have never made an attempt at singing in public since.
