I know it's a year away but here's my situation, I have a chance to get on at abf I work at yrc and have about 37 years in the union 34 at yrc [central states]. If I get on at abf and get a year in I can get my pension back unless something happens with your pension payments. I know no one has a crystal ball but any thoughts? No matter what happens good luck on it and I pray the yellow cancer leaves you alone.

YRC's pension contributions are frozen, correct? I would imagine contributions from ABF on your behalf would resume as soon as your probation period is complete (30 days). As you know several of the funds are not in good shape. Here out West, last I heard, we were 96% funded. Good luck brother!

yes we are only getting partial payments and get a greatly reduced pension because of it. If we go to full contributions(get on at a place like abf )we get credit for what was paid in in the past and can return to full pension. What I am worried about is what might happen in your contract. Any ideas?

Like ANY contract, the 'next' one is always pure speculation. Personally, as one who got hosed in the last one, I can tell you what we're going after next time: Restoration of the vacation policy pre-2013, increases in wages to basically match our non-union competition, and maintenance of our H & W benefits. As for pension contributions, we're a PEER 80 company, which makes our contributions almost $8/hr. Not bad in my opinion. ABF is knee-deep in cash, but we'll get the sob story in a year from now. If you do get on here soon, I would recommend moving copious amounts of money into your 'strike fund'...aka, savings accounts. There are a LOT of pissed off people here who aren't afraid to pick up a picket sign next year.

I would guess any day now, the sackcloth and ashes will appear at the upper management level....... That's to be expected.

The big question will be whether Mr. Hoffa will be putting on his night shirt in preparation to get back in bed with the employers. He doesn't have so cohesive a team as he did last contract,...... with a good number of Zuckerman people being elected.

Mr. Hall has resigned as head of Small Package,......... possibly pending charges. That was Mr. Hoffa's right hand man, and his anointed successor........

Will we finally get an honest contract because Mr. Hoffa has a number of officers actively watching for malfeasance,........ instead of like in past years where the Good Ol' Boys club let him rubber-stamp any piece of trash they supposedly "negotiated".

The carhaulers contract is a bright ray of hope........ They stood firm for a couple of years,....... rejecting all the trash the IBT claimed was the "last, best and final offer".....

The....... IBT finally caved....... the employers were merely on the sidelines,........ and the carhaulers got a half decent contract.

It's a damn shame that it had to be done that way to start with. So who's handling UPS Small Package now? And why did Ken Hall even handle UPS Freight? Their contract sucks.

Ah, dang it,....... I can't remember if my BA said it was Sean O'Brien from Boston, or someone else.....

Or maybe Mr. O'Brien took over Ernie Soehl 's spot as Eastern Regional director....

I think all these changes are on the Teamster site,........ Many of them just came out last week.... I think the only appointment open is the Central States region director for freight......

As far as being pissed off, I know a lot of abf drivers are about the last contract. As far as striking?? That will never happen. Hell, at our barn if we were to picket, the damn yes men would be jumping the fence to get to work. Another sad story. People making good money, but won't save a dime of it. Counting on social security and the pension. Good luck with that

I expect that new hires will get their vacation back, 1 yr/1 wk, 2 yrs/2 wks and nothing for the rest of us. To cover the cost to the company we will all be making weekly or monthly health care copays. Since everyone else has those copays we should too. And since negotiating our contract is such a burden on the IBT they might even make it a six or seven year deal. Raises? About 2.5% with a whopping 3% about year 4.

No on the copay, they were on a drunken spending spree after the last contract was signed, i think the yes voters have buyers remorse, hope they learned a lesson.Let us see what the company has in store for us this time,if it sucks then i will vote no again !!!

Sounds good in theory but these newcomers are just glad to have a job. Now they just want some vacation to go with it. :soapbox:

we cannot get anyone that is good now. good luck to A.B.F. I think this ship hit the iceburg and the band is moving the chairs around .They keep playing while the water is coming over the deck.I was at a regular customers of ours last week,he said that Panther was just here to deliver product we do every week. they are preparing for the contract negotiations by running panther on ltl runs. let us see what the contract is and i say ,get the burning barrels ready for the strike.

I've said it time and again........ you don't pay "healthcare" co-pays to your employer...... if it was really for healthcare, you would be writing a check to your healthcare provider.

When your employer takes money out of your check, he is adjusting his labor costs under the guise of a "healthcare maintenance fee". It does NOT go to your healthcare.

This is one of the biggest shuck'n'jive scams perpetrated on working people...

Look at the npn-Unions...... When they get a pay raise, ...... sonofagun! Their "healthcare" cp-pay raises shortly thereafter just as sure as the sun rises in the east.

What they have left in their pocket is exactly the same as before their "pay raise".

Many of us know that but I believe that many more do not.

Yeah,.......many of us take our employers at their word, never thinking that their very own boss would cheat them and lie about the true purpose of a healthcare " co-pay". 10 minutes' worth of research does open eyes up, sometimes.........

Just like many people were hollering to get rid of "Obamacare",......... and were aghast to find out it was the same as the Affordable Care Act under which they were getting their insurance....... they thought " Obamacare" was something different.

Just like the picture of the old guy with his protest sign that said: " Tell the Government to keep their hands off our Social Security".......

People take a lot of things for granted without doing the research.......

Had a talk with my BA today and was surprised. ABF talked to Ernie Soels and asked for a contract extension. Supposedly Ernie told them nooo, and we want our weeks vacation back and more ,or we will go on STRIKE. Time will tell, but at least he's showing some balls!!!!
