ABF | Harrisburg June 20, 2017, 1 P.M.: Right-To-Work Is Wrong Rally

I see RTW as the best thing that can happen for the workers. The teamsters suck and they have sucked for a long time. If I could withhold their pay until such time as they quit sucking I would do it.

Why did you stay? Your Dreamworld exists everywhere but 4 companies.
And what would your response be to the person who works at FedEx, XPO, et al who told those who wanted to join the teamsters that they should leave and go elsewhere?

After the vote..they may as well leave if they lost...it ain't gonna get better...unless they've got years to waste.
If guys have to go thru all the BS abuse by the companies to even join a union, and go thru it for years to get a majority willing, and then a majority vote, and then a contract......Right-To-Work is a company biased scam. A crime it should be. Bernie sanders voters, or Hillary voters, or ted cruz voters do not get their way if they lose a vote......and the scab should not either. A union guy does not get to have any representation nor join the union if he loses.....the company and scab cannot and should not have it both ways.

If they want freedom and liberty...then get rid of the requirement for a vote to join and be represented...find a way for that to work.
Let anybody be a Teamster at any company without a vote...and let them have representation and contract somehow......until 51% of a company join freely...and then give a company contract to those guys........come up with something.

we have a nation whose politicians work for money. lobby money. there's 2 lobbies...One for multinational corporations and banks...and one for union workers.

the attack is designed to take the economic voice from American workers who live here. And hand it over to globalist corporations.
They then own our politicians and our legislations...they own America...and you pay a hell of a lot more than dues when they represent you in your locality, state, or nation.

this is about freedom of speech thru Citizens United lawsuit......it allows corporations to own politicians..he who has the most money legislates/owns the country.......and taking down union numbers thru right-to-work..and many other legislations allows them full reign.
Get rid of the vote for representation and we might talk....Put the scum unionbusters out of work..let the scum find real jobs and the companies spend on their employees who actually do honest work for their money.

Edit: And I suppose that you voted to donate your pension and 15% of your pay or you would have moved on to another company.

I know the importance of us sticking together. it's not all about me all the time.
I voted once no...or maybe twice...but the rest yes. because if you believe that less union numbers is gonna make anything better for workers across the board, I think you are very much mistaken.......I could move on. I could've moved on. but choose to work union because that's what I was raised as best....because it is...even if it means sucking it up for everybody else. I'm not there for New Penn. i'm ther because the union is there. if the progressive rates were gone..I may have moved on..but to a union shop. Not a nonunion shop.
The company wanted that cut. not the union....at least we had a vote. We could've closed the place. Under your nonunion scab rules...the company just takes when they need.

I'll assume that you stayed because you have it better there than at a nonunion shop.
Estes, Conway, Fedexfreight are just as close for you as ABF. You could've went there. but chose to stay.

And if RTW passes in PA and ABF uses a scab to do your job and you don't pay dues..I suppose that you won't pay dues and you won't file because you are not into welfare?

I stayed where I am for the time I have in, nothing more, nothing less and I would not be afraid work non union at this point and I have friends who have done so with no regrets. At this juncture I would quit paying union dues and get the same results from any grievances as I get now, no satisfaction. I paid dues long enough and got nothing, it's time I paid nothing and got what little bit they do offer.

I paid dues long enough to enjoy job security, collect a pension, and enjoy post retiree Healthcare

Fixed that for you. Non union doesn't get those things.

I'll also go on record as to say when the Unions are out of Freight the benefits the nons offer will deteriorate.

I understand your frustration with the Teamsters, but you still enjoy the benefits of working union versus non-union do you not?

One simply cannot get the same benefits working non-union versus union. You may make a bit more on your hourly rate but the overall benefits are substandard.

Right to work is wrong. It's meant to break the unions and hurt the working man while benefiting corporations.

RTW gives the members the right to withhold pay when the union refuses to deliver. I can still work there and reap the benefits and give them an incentive to do their jobs. Just like you and I, union or not, don't do your job and feel the pain.

Edit: BTW there is no post retirement health insurance for me.

And what do you pay now for health insurance?
We pay our $54 dues and that's it.
Copays.
So you think that you paid enough for coverage without even paying dues.
There will be violence over that mentality.

Do tell, what will happen to me, maybe you'll scare me into conforming.
I didn't say me. And I didn't say you. I said over that mentality.....and I know that you are not the only one who has it.
Somehow some feel owed and the rest are expected to pay it. And you know as well as me, that we don't deal with welfare occupy wall street children. This is our money. Our families money. And a lot of our only money.

Not trying to bash either of you but......I was as anti union as they come before I came to ABF almost 4 years ago. Now that I am here I can honestly say this has been the best job I have ever had. ABF treats me with respect compared to other trucking companies, and I get the power of the union behind me. Had major medical last year and any other company would have terminated me but ABF kept me on until I came back 6 months later. You guys forgot what it's like to not be union.

But the teamsters still suck. I see NEMF drivers on a regular basis and I have never heard them complain about the Machinist's Union that represents them. :idunno:
