No matter what, someone will always get the short end of the stick. Every ruling, every contract, some one will feel or get shafted.

This is life gentlemen, not la-la land.

driver, when someone else gets the short end of the stick, you can bet you are going to gets yours, it is just a matter of when. When the union and company gives you the short end of the stick to enrich themselves it is time to send the brown union packing.

There are so many problems with the contract. There is good. But one thing that is really stupid is they have 2 terminals in Sacramento. You have laid off guys at one and the other is hiring off the street. How the hell does that happen? No transfer policy is about as stupid as they come also. Anyway. I'll jump off my soap box now.

You're right, its not la-la land. Its still Overnite land.

it has nothing to do with "overniteland" any contract there is gonna be ne side who feels like they got shafted, negoitiations are give and take.

It is a pie in the sky dream to think every subsequent contract will be better than the previous one, if both sides do there job each contract would be equal, for everything thing you ask for the other side will want somthing in return. Which is why the first contract is the most important of all.

I agree with most of what you said. But there has been no give or take with UPS. They take the drivers give. There is something wrong with that. And you can pretty much guarantee the contract will never be equal.

You just don't get it. This is life. Some get less others get more. That will never change. The contract and the Teamsters can not change a law of nature. This is not communism, its trade unionism.

Contracts are not relevant if they are not enforced. They seem to pick and choose which articles they are going to enforce and which articles to ignore. Both sides are guilty of this. If they can't enforce anything now, the next contract is going to be the same.

You must either have a bunch of *****'s for stewards or you need to run for officer in your local. We have no problems enforcing the contract. The only issue we have been stuck on is the contracting.

I have been in the union for 40 years, the contracts never gets better, ups does not want the union get over it. Ask the driver who is laid off how good the contract is. The union is worthless, they should have filed a breach the first day a contractor went out of a ups freight yard and that would have been the end of it....Keep thinking that hall is burning the midnight oil working for you.

What do you mean UPS didn't want the union! They practically begged us to join so they wouldn't have to deal with us as individuals. They've been dealing with the teamsters for over 50 years. They are experts at dealing with the Teamsters, thats why they wanted us unionized. Its a whole lot easier dealing with a group as a whole unit than trying to deal with each employee as an individual. We fell right into their trap.

The only reason ups gave the teamsters the right to unionize overnite was to get the central states pension fund and now they have it....no they do not want the union. They don't need the union to deal with their employees....they are violating the contract minute by minute at ups and the union can not do anything about it but go to grievances and settle in prepanel that is the only way they can win.

So why are we wasting $14 a week?

Our domicile is having a lot of trouble with stewards and the hall enforcing some articles and ignoring others, as well as standing up for some individuals and throwing others under the bus. Its so bad, that I feel if anything bad happens they would not stand up for me. I've witnessed this first hand with others. The hall won't even call you back. I witnessed a driver loose his job with no response from the hall. He ended up calling the 800 number in Washington to get some help. The hall only contacted him after he called Washington. How sad is that?

Unfortunately some locals are not as good as others. At least he was able to go up the chain of command and get some action.
