FedEx Freight | new Estes trailers in ATL

According to one of our drivers that runs ATL. They are coming in from out west loaded with our freight. We unload them and estes comes and gets empty. I don't know if we are picking up their new trailers for them, and FedEx has worked out a deal to load them and get them to where estes needs them. All I know is we had one in ATL packed with Nashville freight. We pulled it to Nashville and unloaded it and Estes came and picked up empty.

It would be awesome if management would give us a little info so this thread wouldn't be needed, but anyone that has worked here for a minute knows that won't happen till they actually think we are worried about it!
I think they are coming in off rail, but I'm not sure.

This is correct. Estes made a similar deal with ABF. ABF loads their freight on our trailers, puts them on the rail, takes them from rail to their terminal, unloads them, and then delivers them to us.

Our yard is so full of new equipment, it's hard to drive around.

A couple of years ago, Estes was picking up new Knight Transportation 53's, loading our freight on them, and using them on linehaul runs. After they were unloaded Knight would pick them up. Similar situation but afaik no rail was used.

We've done it in KCY before. We loaded FXF bills on new Swift 4 axle trailers and sent them to the Pacific northwest. I'll post a pic later.

I'm surprised how many people aren't aware how often this happens.

Only time it isn't allowed is with new trailers being imported to Canada because the duty has to be paid on them before they cross, which means no freight on them before delivery. Can't rail them over the border either because it'd take forever to clear customs.

I remember Verspeeten Cartage tried to be clever once and pick up their own trailers, load them up in the US with GM auto parts, and bring them home. Customs stopped every incoming Verspeeten truck for months after that to check the duty was paid on the trailer.

Interesting bedfellows:

The post office uses so many contractors, nothing surprises me. And Walmart themselves, probably the contractor in this case, is almost as notorious for the same thing. I've seen many, many different power units pulling for Walmart, including all the big TL carriers.
