ABF | Harrisburg June 20, 2017, 1 P.M.: Right-To-Work Is Wrong Rally

Lol, I get it, your a BA that retired, and your feelings are hurt that you hear that guys aren't happy with your representation.

As to your question, they have to pay you for time worked, that's a winning labor board case all day long, no union needed, although effective union representation would help.

You got me there. Just a retired BA that nobody appreciated who was just interested in collecting union dues.

You've obviously been retired a little while then! Nonunion shops have been upping pay to keep the seats filled, meanwhile the union shops can't grasp that they are worth some coin, and settle for meager increases.

Not in Freight. YRC is taking deep cuts, ABF took cuts for 4 years.

I gotta ask a 3rd time, what shop has a good contract in your opinion?

Truthfully, I wouldnt of voted for any of the ones that I have been following. That includes YRC, ABF, UPS Freight and UPS Parcel. I haven't taken a good look at the Carhaulers last contract that was passed yet, just the crappy one that got turned down.

It's like that everywhere, with contracts. I mean, it can be an OK contract, but these union jobs are not what they once were, and the locals are so eager to put anything the company doesn't want on the chopping block, what's the point? If you work under contract, good, take advantage of it. If you don't, I dunno, if its,a good job, what can I say? Who could blame a guy in 2017 for going to xpo or fedex?

Stop pretending that riding the end of union freight was fighting for something, I've told you, feel free to go organize some barns if you think it'd so simple. You get all choked up about the glory days and don't understand its not like that anymore!

Just when did I say that organizing was so simple? You couldnt of been thinking of anyone elses reply because you've been arguing with me for the past 7 pages. The members arent what they were like anymore either.

No argument . That's the problem. When all these morons under contract WON'T do anything, what can 1 guy do? Nothing? Pack up and leave?

I wouldnt blame a guy for going to any company these days, thats his prerogative. If thats what makes him happy then all the power to him. What I dont like is someone trying to sell me a crappy contract and trying to convince me its for my own good. Just like this RTW crap.

You guys make good points about paying dues for lack of representation. I fear that the RTW crowd is leading us down the garden path, though. They don't want RTW for the worker's benefit,..... they want it to de-fund and emasculate organized labor....

However, I understand about the frustration of dealing with arrogant and unresponsive Union officials. Is RTW our only recourse....... or is it the easiest recourse? I've always been an advocate of taking our Union back... one Local at a time... That takes a lot of time and effort, though......

I'd sure hate to see the idea of Unionism fold and go under because some shyster group of lawyers concocted a scheme to help us defeat ourselves.......

What's the German word? ......" Gotterdammerung"........ Last act of Wagner's Ring cycle.......... destruction of everything......
Agreed brother down in SC local 509 we had the same officials in office for over 15 years. We finally had a UPS crew run against them and unseated overwhelming. President of local realized he needed a freight guy to handle the division and appointed a road steward from Holland. If your active and hold them accountable you will see change either by them or a new official. Sitting back and complaining gets you no where but on TB venting. 1st day I start as BA is May 22nd.

Good luck. Going to try and organize any shops?

Thank you, Brother. I think a lot of guys vent their righteous frustration out on here,....... but when it comes down to the proper choices, just about every Union man,..... retired or not,.....understands just how disingenuous even the term "Right to Work" is....

That term makes a presumption that certain people's "Right to work" is being violated...... If that's true, that would be by the employer. The Union..... any Union ........ doesn't hire or fire. The companies do that....

And sometimes they hire real doozies that the Union has to work real hard to keep them from getting fired through ignorance.... . their own.....

And sometimes they fire the best people for the worst reasons.......

But in no instance does a Union interfere with anyone's "Right to Work". . It's the companies who do that......

Very true. So many are campaigning for the RTW not knowing whats already in place that Taft-Hartly provided 70 years ago. They must still be under the impression of the closed shop concept. They probably havent a clue to the meaning of financial core or what agency fees apply to. Like they say, ignorance is bliss. The proper name for RTW is RTF, the Right To Freeload.

I knew that was docker from his first post and I knew that he wouldn't last. The fact that he and his toadies trash this site yet frequent it is confusing. Nobody makes him come here and he is one of the most disliked people that has ever been here yet he feels compelled to return. :idunno:

Right now, most unions charge 1 penny less for agency fees, so what happens when guys at a company are compelled to be union because the company benefits more than the guys?
